Contents of the MAUREEN O’HARA COLLECTION:

JAMAICA INN– O’Hara’s shroud debut is also Alfred Hitchcock’s last British-made film. A nicely-paced legend rendered by a strong cast. The Jamaica Inn is home for land-based pirates (headed by a nobleman) who trick passing ships into stranding on Cornwall’s shoals, after which they loot the abandoned wrecks.

KANGAROO — Immigrants from Ireland decide in rural Australia. Technicolor Aussie scenery may be the highlight of this too-predictible yarn. Richard Boone as the villain is over-the-top.

THE DEADLY COMPANIONS– Western about an Army officer who escorts the funeral procession of O’Hara’s young son through unsafe Indian territory. The best of this exiguous collection, thanks in piece to Sam Peckinpah’s modern direction and editing.

The KIRK DOUGLAS SIGNATURE COLLECTION is a similar DVD state from St. Clair.

I mainly bought this DVD because I absolutely cherish Maureen O’Hara and because I was though-provoking about the film, “Kangaroo”. Since it was very reasonably priced I figured ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained’ - so I’m pleased I didn’t pay more than a few dollars for it! The video transfers were from the worst possible film sources with tons of abominable splices, missing dialog and dreadful recount quality. I was consuming about “Kangaroo” because of the stories Maureen O’Hara told in her autobiography, ” ‘Tis Herself”. She said it was a accurate “stinkeroo” (as she called it) and, by golly, it is! None the less, it didn’t cost me remarkable to gather out for myself. I should’ve taken her word for it!

“V for Vendetta” is going to confuse a lot of people. Nevertheless, and earn no mistake about it, this is movie making of the highest order, combining all the finest elements of immense storytelling into a potent roller coaster of a movie filled with huge action, intellect and above all, ideas. Its message can - and will - easily be dismissed by naysayers as sophomoric or too “out there,” or “anti-american” but there is also an earnestness here that will resonate strongly, and perhaps, frighteningly, to many viewers who will not fail to discover the correlation between this fictional yarn and the map the world we live in works.

Buy,Download, Or Stream V for Vendetta! Click Here

Filled with stereotypes and archetypes, “V” is unapologetic in its essaying of morality and in its strongly held sentiment that this account is “for the people, by the people.” Brothers and writers Larry and Andy Wachowski (of Matrix fame) have infused their screenplay with the inflame, confusion and hope captured in Alan Moore’s fresh graphic unusual - and it’s better looking as a result.

I truly acquire that many who survey “V” will be upset by it, but hopefully more of us will be inspired by its doughty, blatant message and grasp a honorable hard witness at ourselves and the device the world works around us and survey that, with sacrifice and thoughtfulness, the world can be changed.

As Evey, Natalie Portman is cast in something of the “victim” role, but she makes us route for her, and to her credit she goes beyond that making the transformation of her character not only believable, but in the destroy, honorable.

Hugo Weaving - the man gradual the cover - gives a performance that can only be described as mesmerizing. As “V” he exposes all of the strength and weakness of a character that is equal parts savior and villain.

The physical production is sparkling in its realism as it paints a nightmarish world of the not-very-distant future (2020) and is chilling in its depiction of governmental power, socio-political corruption and, ultimately, the complacency of its citizens. Weaving’s “V” challenges, and ultimately changes all of that, as he speedily unravels the fabric of civilized society, capturing the public with his gallant ideas - and with the promise and permanancy of change through rebellion and political uprising.

Most chillingly, the film invokes the terror once feared in “1984″ but with a renewed vigor that drives home the horrors Orwell foresaw, and level-headed loom big in our comfy current world. Chilling? You betcha! For those who know the original, there is exiguous skimping, and, given the unique world space, one must absolutely applaud the filmmakers for “going there” as far as the ending is concerned. This is film making at its emotional and inspiring best.

Are there flaws? Of course there are, but ultimately “V for Vendetta” rises far above them in its presentation of a world filled with ideas that have forever been debated, and does it in a fable well told, beautifully acted and chunky of hope for humankind. Not unpleasant work for a movie. Actually, it’s glorious.

Alan Moore’s decision to want his name off the final credits for the film adaptation of V for Vendetta now makes sense. Moore has had a hate/hate relationship with Hollywood and the film industry in general. They’ve taken two of his other works in The League of Wonderful Gentlemen and From Hell and bollocks’d them up (to borrow a term musty quite abit in V for Vendetta) . Outside of Watchmen, Alan Moore sees V for Vendetta as one of his more personal works and after reading the screenplay adaptation of the graphic new by The Wachowski Brothers his decision afterwards was to ask his name be removed from the film if it was ever made. Piece of this was his hatred of the film industry for their past mistakes and another being his wish for a perfect adaptation or none at all. Well, V for Vendetta by James McTeigue and The Wachowski Brothers is not a perfect film adaptation. What it turns out to be is a film that stays upright to the spirit of Moore’s graphic recent and given a fresh, up-to-the-current news retelling of the world’s spot of affairs.

V for Vendetta starts off with abit of a prologue to elaborate the relevance of the Guy Fawkes screen conventional by V throughout the film and the significance of the date of the 5th of November. I mediate this change in the narrative from the source material may be for the assist of audiences who didn’t grow up in the UK and have no belief of who Guy Fawkes was and what his Gunpowder Position was all about. The sequence is short but informative. From then on we travel on to the open of the main yarn and here the film adheres finish enough to the source material with a few changes to the Evey character (played with skill that more than makes up for her Amidala performances) but not enough to extinguish the character. Caught after curfew and accosted by the ruling government’s secret police called Fingermen, Evey soon encounters V who saves her not unbiased from imprisonment but rape.

Right from the initiate the one thing McTeigue and The Wachowski Brothers got dead-on was casting Hugo Weaving as the title character. Stutter silky, velvety and sonorous, Weaving infuses V with an otherworldly, theatrical personality. Whether V was speaking phrases from Shakespeare, philosophers or pop culture icons, the express gave a character who doesn’t present his face from leisurely the enternally-smiling Guy Fawkes shroud exact life. I’d forgiven the makers of this films for some of the changes they made to the narrative and some of the characters for keeping V as discontinuance to how Moore wrote him. Once V and Evey are thrown in together by the happenstance of that nightly encounter their fates became intertwined. Portman plays the reluctant watch to V’s acts of terrorism, murders and destruction in the beginning, but a poignant and emotionally distinguished sequence to begin the second half of the film soon brings Evey’s character not remarkable towards V’s design of doing things, but to view impartial why he’s doing them. This sequence became the emotional punch of the whole film and is literally lifted word for word from the graphic unusual. I heard more than unbiased a few people sobbing in the theater as the scenes and tale unfolded.

The rest of the cast seemed like a who’s who of the British acting community. From Stephen Rea’s stubborn and dogged Chief Inspector Finch whose quest to salvage V leads him to finding clues about his government’s past actions that he’d rather have not found. Then there’s Stephen Fry’s flamboyant TV demonstrate host who becomes Evey’s only other ally whose secret longings have been forbidden by the government, but who’s awakened by V’s actions to go through with his absorb compose of rebellion. Then there’s John Damage as High Chancellor Adam Sutler who’s seen chewing up the scenery with his Hitler-like performance through Enormous Brother video conferences (an ironic bit of casting since John Distress also played Winston Smith in the film adaptation of the Orwell classic 1984) . I really couldn’t catch any of the supporting players as having done a abominable job in their performances. Even Hurt’s Sutler may seemed over-the-top to some but his performance impartial showed how mighty of a hatemonger Sutler and in the kill his Norsefire party really were in order to finish in power.

The sage itself, as I mentioned earlier, had had some changes made to it. Some of these changes angered Moore and probably inflame his more die-hard fans. I count myself as one of these die-hards, but I know how film adaptations of classic literary works must and need to dapper some of the bulky from the main body and theme of the fable to fully translate onto the silver shroud. The Wachowski Brother’s screenplay did fair that. They trimmed some of the side stories and tertiary characters from the anecdote and concentrated on V, Evey and Inspector Finch’s pursuit of both and the truth. This adaptation is distinguished closer to how Peter Jackson adapted The Lord of the Rings. As a fan of Moore I understood why he was miserable with the changes. But then Moore is also an avowed perfectionist and only a perfect adaptation would do.

Already critics on both sides of the aisle have called V for Vendetta revolutionary, subversive, heroic to irresponsible, propagandist. All because the film dares to ask serious questions about the nature and role of violence as a gain of dissent. But the granddaddy query the film brings up that has people talking is the question: terrorist or freedom fighter? Is V one or the other or is he both? Create no mistake about it, V for all intents and purposes is a terrorist if one was to consume the definition of what a terrorist is. The makers of this film goes to mountainous lenghts to record throughout the film objective how Sutler and his Norsefire (with its iconic Nazi-like symbols and fundamentaist Christian thinking) party rose to power in the UK. Partly due to what seemed like the failed US foreign policy and its subsequent and destructive decline as a superpower and the worldwide apprehension and fright it began as a result. V for Vendetta also ask unbiased who was to blame for allowing such individuals to rule over them. V has his reasons for killing these powers-that-be, but he also points out that people really should objective perceive in the mirror if they need to know who really was to blame. For it was the population — whose desire to remain sterling and have a semblance of peace — gave up more and more of their basic liberties and rights for a return to order. If one was to ogle at the past 100 years they would glance that it’s happened before. There was the regime of Pol Pot in Cambodia, Milosevic’s Greater Serbia, and the king of the hill of them all being Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Inner Circle.

Another thing about V for Vendetta that will surely talked about alot will be the images broken-down in the film. Not unbiased images and symbols looking so great like Nazi icons, but images from the recent events sweeping the globe that has been shown time and time again in the news and written about in magazines and newspapers. The film shows people trip and hooded like prisoners from Abu Ghraib. The reason of the war on awe stale time and time again by Sutler to elaborate why England and its people need him and his group to protect them by any means important. V for Vendetta seems like a timely film for our fresh times. Even with the conclusion of the film finally accomplishing what Guy Fawkes failed to do that night of November 5th some 400 plus years ago, V for Vendetta doesn’t give all the answers to all the questions it raises. For some I’m clear this would be something that’ll frustrate them. So grand of people who go to contemplate thought-provoking films want their questions answered as clearly as possible and all of them. V for Vendetta doesn’t retort them but gives the audience enough information to try and work it out themselves.

In final analysis, V for Vendetta accomplishes in bringing the main themes of Alan Moore’s graphic original to life and even does it well despite some of the changes made. It is a film that is determined to polarize the indecent left and good of the political pundits and commentators. But as a fragment of thought-provoking and even as a politically subversive film, V for Vendetta does it job well. It is not a perfect film by any respect, but the fable and message it tries to philosophize in addition to its value as a part of entertainment mor than makes up for its flaws. V for Vendetta more than continues the original gash of seriously done silly book fillm adaptations (Batman Begins, X2, Sin City, and A History of Violence) but it also shows that Alan Moore’s work can be adapted well to the cover when given to the honest people. It may not be perfect and it may not obtain Alan Moore delighted, but it comes finish and more than makes up for LXG and From Hell.

Like all road pictures, AWAY WE GO is about a couple in their early thirties trying to spy themselves (and what kind of home and family they want to get for themselves) through a round of visits in the sixth month of the pregnancy. I’ve never been a stout fan of Dave Eggers, but the script that he wrote with Vendela Vida is a knowing one. The structure of the film is simple: Burt (THE OFFICE’s Jim Krasinski) and Verona (SNL’s Maya Rudolph) have moved to a shrimp, wintry house entirely so that they can live arrive Burt’s parents. But after learning that they will be consuming to Antwerp a month before their baby is due, they realize that they don’t need to live any longer in a town where they have no friends and, now, no relatives. They concept a long streak that will scrutinize them visiting friends and relatives in a number of locations, including Scottsdale, Tucson, Montreal, and Miami. They peek people whose lives they would like to emulate and those they would not.

And along the arrangement hilarity ensues. The scenes between Burt and Verona are frequently hysterical, though when they are meeting their friends or relatives they tend to become “straight men” and the humor shifts over to the others. Although several people are absolutely outstanding, two actors deserve special mention. First, Allison Janney is absolutely hysterical as Verona’s weak boss in Chicago (more about Chicago in a second) . She is, putting it simply, a nightmare of a mother. But in the most hysterical of ways. (Now on Chicago. Verona mentions working in Chicago and she is shown to be a medical illustrator. This is not unconnected with Chicago; in fact, there is a say correlation between medical illustration and Chicago, since the most significant medical illustration program is at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical School. Odds are that if someone has studied medical illustration, they did it there.) The second actor who stands out is Maggie Gyllenhaal, who plays a college professor and extinct friend of Burt who and the embracer of more fringe and nutzoid ideas than one can imagine. Her ideas, and those of her husband, are so absurd that given gentle, placid Burt can win no more.

But the major kudos have to go to Krasinski and Rudolph, who manage to form two characters we arrive to like a mountainous deal and who we very remarkable hope will near to understand precisely what they and where they want to have it. This is an especially exquisite film given the overwhelming amount of special effects fare at this time of the year. This is an shimmering film that also manages to be very, very amusing. It is currently in somewhat small release, but when you find a chance to watch it, do so.

At the butt-end of last year Sam Mendes directed a film called Revolutionary Road. This was a masterpiece, truly deserving of that title. It’s his best film hands down! His previous films American Beauty and Road To Perdition weren’t too shabby either. They all have a sense of darkness and foreboading. The gloomy foreboading element is missing from his new film Away We Go, and that is not a awful thing.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Away We Go! Click Here

The basic set-up is simple and understandable in that movie universe sort of intention, but two winning performances from leads Mya Rudolph and Chris Krisinski really aid this thing over some of the comedy set-up trappings. Rudolph is an actress that I’ve known from SNL and that’s it, I’ve not seen here in anything else. Surprisingly, she ends up playing straight-man to Krisinski. And you she gives a very touching and impartial performance, and I witness a vast career outside anything resembling comedy in her future. Krisinski is an actor I’ve never seen in anything. I’ve been informed that he is one of the stars of the American version of The Office, and he, like Rudolph, is someone I want to sight more of. He plays affable in this film like a pro. He’s an optimist and a realist all in one heartwarming stroke. He’s the goofier of the couple but it comes off more like it’s share of his character and his personality and less like comedy schtick. Together I would peruse any film premise about this pairing.

This is a steady couple, not a made up movie couple. This is my accepted allotment of this film. The station is cute and similar to that of the broad film Flirting With Inconvenience, but the unmarried leads build this film above average. They don’t have funny, pointless and melodramatic arguments to up the conflict factor most these type of films contrive for the sheer ‘entertainment’ value. Sorry, folks, this is about actual people not the cyphers that produce up the world of most sitcoms and Rom-Coms.

The first and one of the best examples I can conjur up in regard to this point is an early scene of the couple driving to Krisinski’s parents’ house(played hysterically but briefly by Jeff Daneiels and Catherine O’Hara) . Krisinski, who sells insurance by phone, gets a call from a client and puts on an unpleasant ‘offcial business’ snarl that irritates Rudolph. She pulls over the car and gently steps out. He catches up to her and they flirt. There’s no comic argument of the two complaining about themselves. They know each other so well and truly appreciate each other to the point that they know each others’ faults, quirks and everything in between. This is what it is like to truly know, understand and appreciate each other. Cramped touches like this really fabricate this film rise abvove the rest.

This is a road movie so we meet various other side characters that encourage emphasise and illustrate versions of family life and current couplings. We obtain some tremendous cameo by Maggie Gyllenhal as a very liber4al new-agey type who supplies some o the film’s funniest situational comedy. Most of the humor comes from an just state and not joke set-ups. Not all of the humor, but most. The constant change in locale is a comedy procedure in itself but we forgive it because the characters are so intriguing and dependable.

The film is not without its flaws. The premise is a bit definite and basically negligiable. The final emotional conclusions are determined long before they advance, but they are executed and performed so flawlessly it’s easy to forgive this flaw.

I’m contented to inspect Mendes broaden inot this territory. It’s not as sunless, and it’s not about sad people, but rather accurate people. They are self-proclaimed “F@#$CK ups”. It’s a account of slow bloomers. They’re fair making it and fitting the pieces together a runt slower then the rest of us. No titanic career destinations, no mountainous dreams, they’re unbiased living their lives and loving each other honestly. It’s quite fair. Starting their unexpected family is as natural to them as never becoming a wedded couple. This is life, but rather contrived in a more moving movie arrangement.

There’s no doubt about it, Disney’s wonderfully charming classic “Oliver and Company” is one of the most dated engrossing films you’ll ever glimpse. Of course, that’s a ample allotment of its charm. What could be more “`80s” than 1980s Modern York City? How about the music of Billy Joel and Huey Lewis? I know they were two favorites of mine in the `80s! Okay, to be fair, Billy Joel and Huey Lewis aside, the `80s is something you inspect serve on and mock rather than belief fondly, especially the clothes, and Oliver and Company captures that aspect, along with many others, perfectly. So, it’s dated. Everything is, really. Call it nostalgia. Anywho, as strongly `80s as “Oliver and Company” is, it rises above it! It is simply a stout film! That’s something that’s easy to forget if you haven’t seen it in a while. “Oliver and Company” is Disney’s twist on Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” and it is an Generous modernization! All the best characters are there, and the cast is star-studded! The piano man himself, Billy Joel, voices the artful Dodger, a canine so icy he puts Snoopy to shame (we unexcited care for ya, Snoopy)! The hilarious Cheech Marin is Tito the Chihuahua, animation alumnus Dom Deluise is Fagin, the divine Bette Midler is one of Disney’s funniest characters as Georgette, Robert Loggia is the excellently slimy villain, Sykes, and a very young Joey Lawrence plays Oliver, objective to name a few! With seamlessly incorporated computer animation and painstakingly acquired “dog’s scrutinize concept” shots of Original York City, “Oliver and Company” was the film that kicked off Disney’s great comeback as an animation heavyweight, though this cute miniature film was easily forgotten in the wake of Disney’s mega-hit, “The Shrimp Mermaid,” the following year. But don’t let that end you from enjoying the magic of “Oliver and Company” yourself! Even the soundtrack is terrific, despite that it is powerfully “80s.” And, it’s improbable how well Disney has translated “Oliver Twist” into a memoir about cats and dogs on the streets of Current York without losing the heart of the fable and its underlying messages. The DVD is amazing as well, especially for a single-disc Disney release! This is the device DVDs should be! In addition to the widescreen presentation of the film, you pick up a tedious the scenes featurette from the new theatrical release, 2 shorter featurettes, a TV situation, theatrical trailers, a scrapbook gallery of art and other materials, 2 sing-along-songs, and the best part: You rep two classic Disney shorts! Included as extras are “Puss Cafe,” a hilarious Pluto cartoon where the pup goes up against two troublesome felines invading his backyard, and “Lend a Paw,” the Oscar winning Mickey Mouse short in which Pluto saves a kitten from drowning and fast regrets it. Outstanding stuff, and an incredible selection of extras for a single-disc Disney DVD! Rediscover this Disney Classic on DVD today! You won’t regret it!

During the 80’s, the studio hit an artistic, creative, and commercial journey. However, I aloof derive that I quite indulge in Disney’s 80’s films, many of which experimented with computer animation, non-musical storylines, and different source materials. One of my current pre-Little Mermaid 80’s Disney films is Oliver and Company. Boasting a soundtrack filled with tremendous songs and a unbelievable cast of characters, Oliver and Company finally gets the DVD treatment, albeit a less-than-stellar one.

For one, the transfer is ample, but it could be mighty better and it has a sparkling amount of grain.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Oliver and Company! Click Here

The bonus features could have been noteworthy better as well. A few fluff EPK-type featurettes, which are nice, but aloof fluffy, are sadly enough the meat of the bonuses. Also included, fortunately, are the unusual trailer, new TV situation, and the 1995 re-release trailer. Two sing-alongs are included as well as two classic Disney short cartoons.

Overall, it’s nice to recognize Oliver and Company on DVD at last. This is probably the best DVD edition Disney will give it for at least a while, so if you’re considering picking it up, go for it.

you’ve got to cherish the simple brilliance of “person-on-the-street” interviews coupled with aardman’s outstanding claymation and subtle visual gags. the fair test of a vast idea is the number of creative directions in which it can be modified, yet mild sustain its essence — and on this level, “creature comforts” delivers.

fans of dry british humor (i’m one myself) will esteem this; snippets of talking claymation animals discussing their day-to-day lives in a variety of scenarios (the ocean, the veterinarian, the circus, working pets, etc.) there are plenty of laugh-out-loud instances here, and it’s charming. the crisp pacing works extremely well, too; at times, the silences are as humorous as the jokes (you’ll inspect what i mean) .

in my estimation, the layered comedy of “CC” is a recount descendant of the classic “looney tunes” cartoons. kids can fair sit aid and be pleased the hilarious visuals, while perceptive adults can have fun dissecting the in-jokes, sly references and everyday humor to which we can all portray.

(FYI: due to the variety of accents here, i recommend subtitles so you don’t miss any laughs!)

I’ve been a fan of these “Claymation” spicy presentations since 1990 when the feature movie called “Creature Comfort” won the Academy Award’ in it’s category. The “brains’ tedious that feature have gone on to do a television series, by the same name (except now the title is plural), of which this two DVD presentation is seasons one and two that contains a host of “current” characters. The creators of “Creature Comforts” the series continue the most hilarious tradition that they started with the unique feature movie. My god, these series are so darn laughable. I feel that it is indeed “cartoons” for “Grown ups”as were many of the “Looney Tunes” cartoons. Kids, of course, can luxuriate in them too; however, to me, it takes some exact “life experience” to fully enjoy the humor therein because it, for the most allotment, is rather subtle.

This series posses questions that most of us face every day to hilariously spirited animals that are made of clay. These clay cartoon characters acknowledge these questions (some rather serious ones) using (of course, supplied by amazing actors) accents (British, American, Spanish, etc.) .that are hysterical. In addition, to these interrogate and retort sketches there is usually something very amusing going on in the background. Therefore, one gets more and more out of each sketch upon multiple viewings. Some of the questions posed and answered couldn’t be with human subjects because some sketches do border on the “politically mistaken”.

Above all these series are extremely laughable. Therefore, if you want a really edifying laugh choose these DVDs.

Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky of Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack fame, this series of 20, 3 dinky shorts was created to bridge the gap in anecdote between Episodes 2 and 3 of the Star Wars prequels. This is vol. 1 of a 2 vol. series; the second will be in a slightly different format (15 microscopic episodes) and will animate the opening scrawling text of Episode 3. These shorts, though brief, are a lot closer to what the fans have expected out of the prequel films but haven’t gotten. There is a lot of action and the characters, for the most section, are powerful better realized than in the films. In fact, there is more character development in honest the one 4 second scene between Anakin and Amadala in this series then there is in the entire second Star Wars prequel. Lucas gave Tartakovsky reign to bid new stories for this series and he has chosen to focus on the various Jedi and their skills, something the films generally lack. Once again, we learn more about Mace Windu and the entire order of the Jedi through these 3-minute shorts than we do in the hours of Prequel footage released so far. What’s really nice about this DVD is that the shorts have been edited into one 69-minute feature that helps hold the account powerful tighter than when they aired on the cartoon network, broken up into 3-minute chunks. The extras are nice as well, though impartial as short as the unusual cartoons were. All in all, between this volume and the next currently in production, I assume these cartoons will eventually rep their plot to becoming section of the Star Wars film series and not objective a diversion from it.

I’m a large nerd.

I don’t want to be exasperated about Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, I really don’t. Lucas’ last two movies have dulled what was a radiant state of my childhood.

So why am I watching the traditional movies (yes, even Episodes I & II), reading Labyrinth of Unfriendly and playing Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy?

Somehow excitement about Star Wars stuff is unbiased hard-wired into me, no matter how worthy Jar Jar you throw in.

Thankfully, Genndy Tartakovsky and crew have given me a modern hope (pun intended) with the beautifully conceived Clone Wars, Vol. 1.

Airing originally on Cartoon Network and bridging Episodes II & III, Tartakovsky’s though-provoking shorts have the goods. Twenty episodes follow Anakin, Obi-Wan and a host of other Jedi as they wage the long awaited Clone Wars.

There’s plenty to preserve Star Wars aficionados overjoyed. Memorable quotes include a few “I’ve got a awful feeling about this” and a nice homage to Vader with Anakin commenting “I have you now” with an enemy in his ship’s sites. I’d have loved to have seen a nice stormtrooper head bumping, but what are you gonna do.

The episodes that impressed me most included the Kit Fisto underwater battle (this makes Aquaman ogle like a punk), the Mace Windu sequence (although I could have done without the doe-eyed anime child onlooker), and the hissing lightsaber duel in the rain between Anakin and Asajj Ventress.

George, buddy, occupy a cue from Clone Wars! Less political wrangling about separatists and more wintry stuff like this that made Star Wars colossal in the first position.

(BTW, check out the latest episodes on Cartoon Network and at StarWars.com. You secure to leer C3PO showing off his original bod!)

My celebrated Kaufman routine is one in which he is in a club and he is being heckled by a guy. The guys says “You suck, Kaufman” and Kaufman gives some line befriend to him. Kaufman takes care of the heckler, classic comedian style. And then the heckler days “yOU’RE NOT Comical, kAUFMAN. tHE TRUTH IS, YOU PAID ME TO DO THIS…Am I accurate? Am I fair Kaufman, didn’t you pay me…to heckle you? So you would peer valid, huh? ” And this bit goes on for an poor amount of time. Kaufman seemed to be about layers of uncomfortability…about making the audience feel something other than laughs..

Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski are fun screenwriters, (though I am not determined they are peaceful working) having produced script for Larry Flynt and Ed Wood….they are not always concerned with tradition, and obtain gargantuan hools in telling the narrative. They then seem like the perfect choice for writing the legend of Andy Kaufman, the most non weak of performers…and certainly the first five minutes of the film does not dissapoint…Kaufman(Jim Carrey) stands in a movie shroud, tells everybody it is his movie and the weirdness ensues.

Ok.

Well, then the next two hours never captures this same kind of “what is steady? ” feeling. I mean, don’t accept me noxious. I enjoyed this movie, and Carrey does an extraordinary job of recreating Kaufman onstage…but I concept there were a few problems…one is that no one knew Kaufman that well, and therefore it is almost impossible to construct a bio pic for someone you can’t actually identify with. Therefore we are saddled with forties bio cliches” I Want to Be The greatest of all times” and the extraordinary”I want To Play Carnegie Hall”, and the obligatory “guy finds cyst on his neck”.

Second of All, Kaufman impartial comes off like a jerk half the time.

Third of All, when the film ends, we are no further along about Kaufman than When the film started.

But as I assume about it, here an hour and a half after seeing the movie, I wonder if the wanting more, the frustration, the unanswered questions is not the ultimate Kaufman prank. And the pranks are the major gist of the film. Mighty of the film is about an audience not brilliant how to buy it all…and they are incandescent pranks…objective when you consider you have it figured out, Kaufman’s illusionary reality takes over.

So have we been had? Is this film pretending to be a meaningful bio, and is the ultimate prank? Did we watch

this honest to be fragment of a giant illusion, to be caught up in the routines, to cringe at the innapropriate gags, to wonder why all the members of Taxi are playing themselves twenty years later and DiVito is playing someone else?, and then lag away feeling we have seen a genius or a madman or both…

and feel like we have been alive to in some giant Kaufmanesque experience…

All in all, I consider this is a worthwhile experience…

or maybe Kaufman is alive, and paid me to write this.

First of all, I would like to say that this is a huge movie — you’ll gather yourself totally immersed into the universe of Andy Kaufman during this movie (at least I was) . Before I saw this movie, I had never seen anything by Andy Kaufman (although I tried to change that fact prior to seeing the movie, but since I live in Denmark, it’s hard getting any of his stuff) — apt after seeing it, I went straight home and ordered some of his work on DVD.

Also, anyone who has seen this movie must agree with me, in that Jim Carrey was at least ripped for an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, if not the Oscar statue itself. I can only imagine that it is very rare when an actor is nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Globe Awards, wins the Golden Globe, and doesn’t even find nominated for an Oscar? I’ve lost most of my respect for the Academy.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that this movie didn’t sell as gracious as most of the other Jim Carrey movies — this is definitely his best performance so far (though not as laughable as some of his previous blockbusters, this movie is not intended to be a “full-blown” comedy) .

The DVD release looks colossal too. Not only do you secure a tall movie at a large stamp, you also salvage a lot of extras at that brand, something which is rare these days when you often pay somewhat extra to gather the “collectors edition” or “special edition”. I’m a stout R.E.M. fan too, so the inclusion of two R.E.M. music videos (”Man on the Moon” and “The Big Beyond”) is simply big!

This lean, efficient horror flick stands well above most bloated blockbusters. Dog Soldiers follows a military squad on a training mission in the Scottish wilds, where they run into a pack of werewolves. There’s nothing fancy about the plot–the soldiers hole up in a farmhouse and desperately try to fend off the werewolves until dawn–but the script is full of smart dialogu and clever ideas, the direction is dynamic, and the performances (from Kevin McKidd, Sean Pertwee, Emma Cleasby, and Liam Cunningham, among a solid cast of relative unknowns) are strong and committed throughout. Dog Soldiers pays homage to Night of the Living Dead, Aliens, and The Evil Dead, among other films, but the references are woven into the fabric of the movie. An unpretentious, tension-inducing flick like this is a pleasant reminder that even crude special effects can be more evocative than expensive computer flashiness. –Bret Fetzer

One of Clint Eastwood’s two most important filmmaking mentors was Don Siegel (the other was Sergio Leone), who directed Eastwood in Dirty Harry, Coogan’s Bluff, Two Mules for Sister Sara, and this enigmatic, 1979 drama based on a tru story about an escape from the island prison of Alcatraz. Eastwood plays a new convict who enters into a kind of mind game with the chilly warden (Patrick McGoohan) and organizes a break leading into the treacherous waters off San Francisco. As jailbird movies go, this isn’t just a grotty, unpleasant experience but a character-driven work with some haunting twists. –Tom Keogh
