LOST IN Status began as a serious attempt at an arresting science fiction TV program. It was starting to degenerate into something quite different by the extinguish of the first season and in the second season, the change was fleshy blown. No longer was it a serious reveal. Indeed it was quite humorous. “Campy” is the most approved description.

The change in format resulted in changed characters. Dr. Smith started out as a unfavorable but shimmering villain but is nothing like that in the second season. In fact, he has become the star of the present. He is venal, selfish and not very colorful but he is lots of fun to laugh at. Will is the other star of the explain. He was always depicted as exceedingly intellectual but he seems to have a soft place for Smith and the Robot, the third of the first tier stars. The rest of the group are itsy-bitsy more than background characters. Penny has a few prominent roles but Judy might as well not be there. Sometimes she utters less that a dozen words in the course of an episode.

All of these stories are exceedingly comic and the “science” aspect is truly silly. Pseudo scientific terms abound and are quite meaningless. All science fiction requires the suspension of disbelief but this series requires something more. It requires disbelief to be locked away safely where it has not the slightest possibility of intruding. In spite of this, the series works. It works because it does not consume itself seriously. It is all done in fun and no one, even a child, could remove any of it seriously. This is just in terms of tale, special effects and, especially, aliens. Mostly, it is a vehicle to let Smith be a afflict in the backside.

The Questing Beast - a spacefaring knight in armor, complete with medieval camp, shows up looking for the questing beast. He takes Smith as a hostage and Will as his page. The basset hound wearing spectacles is a nice touch. The beast looks like a unfavorable between a giant Muppet and Barney the dinosaur. She takes in Penny and gives lessons in elocution, manners and snobbish British etiquette. Will learns to be a cynic for a while and then everyone learns about chivalry, even Smith.

The Toymaker - another intergalactic mail order catalog is found by Will and Smith. Dr. Smith pushes the ghastly buttons and becomes section of the catalog. Naturally, Will has to do the same thing. Meanwhile, a “fissure” threatens to crack the planet to pieces. It turns out that Will and Smith have been transported to the realm of a cosmic toymaker who thinks they are toys. When clerks from the store try to sort things out, chaos ensues. It’s a normal episode.

Mutiny In Status - Dr. Smith tries an experiment in rain making. In doing so, he destroys the weather location. He is ostracized as a result. As he wanders off in a huff, he finds a damaged spaceship captained by an admiral who acts like a vestige of the Nelsonian navy and dresses like a refugee from Wellington’s army, complete with tricorne. Will and Smith accept pressed into the service of the admiral who was the victim of a mutiny which saw him cast away in the first region. His treatment of his pressed hands threatens to incite another mutiny. Square rigged set ships? This is handsome screwy even for Lost in Region.

The Status Viking - Dr. Smith is gifted with the gloves and war hammer of the Norse god, Thor. For Smith, these seem like the keys to satisfying his desires of avarice. This is especially proper when a Valkyrie shows up to hail him as the most considerable of all. Unfortunately for Smith, and all around him, with power comes responsibilities such as battling frost giants and the like. He also comes between Thor and his wife, Brunhilde and a fight to the death is in order. Smith gets out of this by psychoanalyzing Thor into a babbling idiot. At least that piece is realistic.

Rocket to Earth - An itinerant magician happens upon the set family Robinson. The jam is that Dr. Smith is the only one who can watch or hear him. This leads everyone, including Smith, to contemplate he is going crazy. It helps that the magician is having fun making Smith go crazy. Eventually, Will and the robot figure out that the alien is steady but not a very trustworthy magician. He does, however, have a residence ship reputedly able to arrive earth. That leads Smith to try and win a job as a magician’s assistant so that he can glean a hotfoot to Earth. The technical term, I assume, is “sorcerer’s apprentice”. Smith is not a very satisfactory magician either but it is not his magical skills that form him an dazzling employee. It is his “expendability”. He probably would have been expended had it not been that Will winds up on the same ship.

The Cave of the Wizards - Smith gets amnesia and that makes his mind receptive to being taken over by an alien force. Another blow to the head restores his memory but not before he utters a wish to have his have ship in the hearing of the alien machine. The result is an nefarious replica of the Jupiter II. Meanwhile, it looks like the Robinsons finally have the valid Jupiter II ready for inaugurate but there is a narrow open window. That window is threatened when the aliens who are controlling Smith status him up as their ruler. This is another one that pushes even more than usual at credibility.

Treasures of the Lost Planet - Smith stumbles into a cave that seems to enjoy a pirate’s worship trove but is disappointed to rep there is diminutive of value. All he finds is a disembodied mechanical head. Meanwhile, Capt. Tucker, a status pirate from a previous episode shows up and Will has to rescue him from some other site pirates. It turns out that the head is the key to a gargantuan cherish. Gaining the cherish requires convincing the head that Smith is actually a craven, backbiting and untrustworthy pirate himself. It works.

Revolt of the Androids - Verta, an android from the celestial department store and a previous episode shows up on the Robinson’s planet. She is collected striving to become more human but her particular line has been discontinued. As a result, she is ordered to be disassembled. Failing to gape the justice in the residence she flees and a destroyer android is sent after her. While Verta is being sheltered by the rest of the family, Smith, Will and the robot hook up with the destroyer who is having mechanical difficulties. They are unaware of Verta’s presence and try to fix him up. Smith wants to exhaust the destroyer to bag access to the cave of a monster that hoards rubies. Typical Smith avarice. The understanding to put Verta involves convincing the destroyer that she is human. She does this by giving him lessons in being a human. It degenerates into a robotic esteem fest.

The Colonists - With as many visitors as they have, you would deem that the Robinsons’ marooned spaceship is located at Mammoth Central Situation instead of some out of the plot planet. In this episode, the family is trying to situation up a series of communications relays when aliens demolish all of the equipment at once time. The source of the destruction is a princess from a run of women warriors and she does not like men. Furthermore, she has decided to claim the planet for colonists from her planet. The men from the Jupiter II are to provide the slave labor to produce things ready. The women are to become members of the novel society. Unfortunately, Penny seems to like the original regime. Smith, of course, tries to worm his map into the safe wishes of the women.

Trip Through the Robot - Smith manages to push the spoiled button damaging the electrical system of the ship. Unfortunately, Smith had neglected to recharge the robot for a few weeks and now recharging him could further hurt the ship and achieve everyone in pain. To prevent wretchedness to the Robinsons, the robot wanders off to die alone. Will and Smith follow after him to try to procure a solution but are unprepared for what they glean. The robot has wandered into a “perilous set” and collapsed from lack of power. A curious gas causes the prone robot to grow to a mountainous size and that is how he is found by Will and Smith. They approach up with an view to go into the robot and “reverse the ions” to shrink him benefit to normal size. The interior of the robot turns out to be a perilous location. I distinct don’t remember anything like this from engineering school.

The Phantom Family - While Dr. and Mrs. Robinson are off doing “something else” the family is attacked by an alien. Will happens to be out of camp at the time as well. When he gets assist, he finds not his family but duplicates of his family. The alien wants Will to converse the duplicates how to be “trusty people” in exchange for getting his family succor. After a brief tour, the portal reappears and will makes it befriend to his family. No one believes his yarn except for Smith who will, of course, assume at any straw to gain succor to earth. In an attempt to point to the truth of his yarn, Will heads abet to the cave and finds that the ghost has approach through and is stuck on this side. He has also lost his location as a ghost and has a physical body again complete with gout. It is decided to send Smith through to arrange for a rescue party but things go disagreeable, as they usually do with Smith, and Will goes through as well. The ghost takes delight in tormenting Smith once he regains his ghostly properties.

The Galaxy Gift - Another alien shows up and this one is being chased by other aliens with heavy ordnance. He befriends Penny offers him refuge in the Jupiter II. That hacks off the other aliens to no kill. In return for her kindness, the first alien gives Penny a special amulet. It turns out to be the item that the second group wants and difficulty ensues.

The final disk has the “Special Features”. It basically consists of a slideshow with audio interviews from Mom and Pop Robinson and Dr. Smith.

The second season of LOST IN Dwelling is somewhat of a mixed bag. It features some of the worst episodes of the series (”The Questing Beast” is absolutely poor), yet it also has quite a few highlights, including the truly delicious “Slide Through the Robot” and John Carradine’s memorable performance in “The Galaxy Gift”. All of the second-year episodes are gripping and sparkling, though, and are helped by Billy Mumy and Jonathan Harris being at their fervent best.

The latest word on the third season DVD release indicates that the final year will be released in two parts, fair as season 2. The tentative release date for Season 3 - fragment 1 is March 2005, with piece 2 due out in June. As most fans probably know, the new network broadcasts of the third-year episodes did not feature the classic cliffhanger endings, but rather a traditonal preview of the following week’s adventure. These previews are slated to be included in the upcoming DVD sets.

These episodes detail the final destruction of Majin Buu. However there is smooth the potential for reliable Buu to release the furious side once more. Now it’s up to Goku to finally finsh Buu off(and reclaim his spot as the main DBZ hero, for that matter) . The scenes on this episode are so beautifully written out and the music fits every scene. The English version is too be avoided, as the voices are tainted and the dumb music destroys all sense of emotion from the Japanese version. But detached, the unique version makes this DBZ volume a must-buy. Yes, it’s THAT salubrious.

I sat with my son and recognize Merry Christmas Josh and Drake after taping it last night. I have to say this was the first time I ever got tears watching these 2 guys. I idea it was very heart warming, and showed the fair meaning of Christmas for young children

This is one of the funniest Christmas specials I have seen in my entire life and that is saying a lot because I am five hundred years mature. No but seriously it was splendid hilarious, Zigby is the best character ever and I was laughing constantly. Also its attractive sweet and heartwarming and all that stuff and the diminutive girl is cute but REALLY it was fair mostly comic. I give it eleven Christmas Trees out of five.

Whatever the obstacle, Carousel may well be a revelation to first-time viewers. The score is among the composers’ most affecting, from the glorious instrumental “Carousel Waltz” to a succession of exquisite love songs (”If I Loved You”), a heart-rending secular hymn (”You’ll Never Walk Alone”), and the expectant father’s poignant reverie, “Soliloquy.” Top-lined stars Shirley Jones (as factory worker Julie Jordan) and Gordon MacRae (as Billy Bigelow, the carnival barker who woos and weds her) achieve greater dramatic urgency here than in the more successful Oklahoma!, with MacRae in particular attaining a personal best as the conflicted Billy, whose anxiety and wounded pride after losing his job are crucial to the plot. It’s Billy’s impatience to support his new family that drives him to an ill-fated decision that transforms the fable into a ghost story.

From the very beginning, Kung Fu Panda had me practically falling out of my seat — laughing. It was the perfect blend of comedy, heart, and action, all well-known elements in a successful and vast animation/CGI film, in the tradition of The Incredibles and (less action, but containing the heart and laughter) Ratatouille, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc.

I was laughing, smiling, and guffawing at Po, the main protagonist (voiced by Jack Shaded) and his misadventures at becoming a Kung Fu expert. This was certainly a flawed character, one that a lot of people can report to because he dreams, he’s laughable, and he can laugh at himself. Also, the tale was beautiful positive and easy to follow because the storytelling was well crafted, and the animation was paired well with characters brought vividly to life by some of the most well-known names in Hollywood.

Jack Dismal and Dustin Hoffman are downright superb as the main characters, and Ian McShane as the awful dude gave it the factual terrorized presence. Other spacious name stars don’t shine as distinguished, but that’s because their roles are rather itsy-bitsy in the film. But that’s calm okay because the animators should be given equal credit (if not more) for delivering the droll, action and heart elements of this movie in an effective, extraordinary and (I’ve got to exercise this) AWESOME manner. Visually, this movie is shapely (view all those scenic shots of the Chinese mountains, bodies of water, and the bridge scene; not to mention the action animation version of “The Matrix” with slow-mo) … simply a delight to peruse.

It’s obvious that Dreamworks has gotten support in the animation game with Kung Fu Panda, after cramped ho-hums in Shrek 3 and Bee Movie (call me crazy, but I liked Over The Hedge more than those two) . Hopefully, it should secure well over $500M worldwide because it is so reliable.

This movie rightfully belongs in the top animation movies of all time (okay, let’s not include the classic fairy tales of old; let’s commence with the 90’s onwards), alongside my faves “The Incredibles” “Finding Nemo” and “Beauty & The Beast.” Has the makings of being a classic.

With deep foreboding, I walked into this movie braced for second rate animation (at least compared to Pixar), endless fights between cartoons (as in the CGI “Clone Wars”), and a cultural sensitivity that was either painfully preachy (like “Mulan”) or outright insulting (like “Aladdin”) .

At first, my anxiety seemed confirmed. Bad Dustin Hoffman mangles Chinese names without mercy - so powerful so that James Hong, Lucy Liu and Jackie Chan have to deliberately mispronounce stuff impartial to match what he says.

But once the movie got rolling, I found myself grinning from ear to ear in sheer delight. Yes, it’s factual, Dreamworks can’t compete with Pixar’s technology, but they form up for it with graceful graphic build, sheer wit and - of course - those hilariously quivering “Scrat Eyes”. What’s more, the animators somehow manage to invent Kung Fu battles between cartoons both spicy and savory - every bit the match of live action fights (which nowadays are nothing more than CGI with faces pasted on) .

However, the most mighty thing about this film is how faithful it is to Chinese culture - family dynamics, Buddhist philosophy, values, and even martial arts - this film simply HAS to have been written by Chinese. There is never a moment where it strains to “come by points” with political correctness. Its characters are never tediously respectable “anti-stereotypes”, but are instead lovingly depicted with all their flaws intact while uniquely Chinese messages are delicately hidden within a status crammed with excitement and laughter. Here you experience how parental care for turns into suffocating pressure, here you watch teenage rebellion as a monstrosity rather than a virtue, here you gawk the quirky characters of a city (complete with that wobbly “accelerate foot” go), here you hear the wisdom of Zen detachment, and here you experience the sacred relationship between student and teacher.

Perhaps my plan is biased by the surprise this movie gave to my outrageous expectations, but I can’t succor but watch this film as an unappreciated but precious gem. Now if only someone could do the same thing with Islamic culture…!

Oldboy has a Shakespearian tone as it depicts the memoir of Oh Dae-su (Min-sik Choi), whose name means “he who can accumulate along with people”. Oh Dae-su is on his arrangement home after having been arrested for public drunkenness to celebrate his daughters birthday. However, Oh Dae-su never arrives to his home as he is kidnapped and imprisoned in a puny room where his only contact with the human world is a television. During the time Oh Dae-su is caged someone murders his wife and he becomes the prime suspect for the execute. The questions that Oh Dae-su unsuccessfully attempts to reply while locked up is why revenge is being taken on him and who is seeking this cruel revenge. After 15 years Oh Dae-su is released from his torturous imprisonment, which leaves him confused and ragingly vengeful.

Chan-wook Park directs a luminous cinematic experience that is stout of well-written conspiring intrigues that will maintain the audience in suspense. The suspense is initiated in the opening shot where a man is hanging over the edge of a roof top causing the audience to asks themselves–why is this happening? The suspense continues as modern and mysterious clues appears, but scare does not leave the audience even after the kill of the film as the final line echos in the minds of the audience. Park’s vision of revenge in Oldboy often depicts exaggerated violence that is well balanced with yarn as it is related to the themes of the film. However, this should attend as a warning to squeamish folks as the film is occasionally brutal and bizarre. Furthermore, the cinematography old-fashioned in Oldboy vividly projects the emotional tone of the cinematic themes and characters. The characters are also superbly performed by an respectable cast, which will befriend the audience to experience a first class cinematic event.

Some films unprejudiced do not allow themselves to topple into generalizations and these films pose conundrums when one tries to clarify them. I’ve owned _Old Boy_ for a number of months now, but for some reason or another I had been able to perform myself sit down and gape the film. For some reason I idea it was a terror film and being that I generally do not care for dread films I let this one sit on the sidelines while I watched other films. However, I was finally inspired to gape this film when my Korean office partner told me how grand she enjoyed the film, been amazed by Choi Min Sik’s acting, and how long the film stuck in her head after watching it. Trusting my friend’s taste in film, last night I finally settled down to search for the film and similar to my reaction with other films that I had underestimated, I wondered: Why the heck had I had not watched this film earlier?

The film begins with a drunken Oh Daesu, Choi Min Sik, sitting in the police office. He is a noisy drunk heaping abuse on the police officers and constantly trying to urinate on the floor. He tells the police to let him go because it is his daughter’ birthday, but when his pleas descend on death ears, he becomes even more recalcitrant to remain mild in the police office. Eventually Daesu’s friend comes to select up his inebriated friend. However, while talking to Daesu’s daughter on the phone, the friend notices that Daesu is missing.

Daesu finds himself imprisoned in a room that resembles a cheap motel room. Fed a diet of dumplings and with a television as his only companion, Daesu will live for fifteen years inside of that miniature room. Occupying his time watching television, punching the walls, writing the names of all who might have had him imprisoned in that room, watching television, and carving a hole in the wall with a metal chopstick, Daesu grows older his youth withered away within that room. However, one day, he finds himself on top of a building finally free to hunt the individual who had imprisoned him. Daesu eventually makes a novel friend in the personage of the young sushi chef Mido, Gang Hye Jeong, who for some reason seems to descend for Daesu as he consumes a live squid, who accompanies him on his search for the individual who ruined his life.

This is an astonishing film. Choi Min Sik’s acting is top notch and one can really feel his madden and frustration inside of his prison. I won’t go into details here, but his performance during the final minutes of the film must be witnessed to be believed. The music is mammoth and the special effects are nicely done. The ant poking through Daesu’s skin is very creepy.

I saw this movie this past weekend at one of its very rare theatrical screenings (which happened to be at the theater where co-screenwater Marcus Dunstan obsolete to work in Macomb, IL) . What the film lacks in originality and budget it makes up for in attitude and ends up a fun, engrossing movie. The residence is a simple rehash of From Dusk Til Dawn, only this time it’s monsters/aliens(? ) attacking the bar, and the people are trapped inside, defending themselves like the folks in both the modern and remake of Night of the Living Wearisome. The writers know what the audience expects from a film like this, so they throw a monkey wrench in here and there to dispel a few of the B-movie terror cliches, their tongues planted firmly in cheek. This movie is down factual hilarious, but there are a few surprise moments. Don’t interrogate to be frightened, but there is plenty of blood and gore. As one person said on another region, the only element missing from the classic tedious 80’s panic flicks is the gratuitous nudity - No T&A!!! (Unbiased a puny bare cleavage) . The character profiles which pop up when the characters are first introduced have a Tarentino feel to them, and are a hoot. If you like From Dusk Til Dawn, Jeepers Creepers, the Nasty Lifeless or Tales From the Crypt movies, or Return of the Living Slow, then this movie is a must witness.

Ok. Yes. The movie is not new. The monsters, well, we’ve seen those kinds before. The characters, of course these are cliche characters, the movie practically points that out to you. Yet the movie is probably the best American fright movie I’ve seen in the past year. I’ll compare this to another movie I saw yesterday (I saw Feast movie unbiased a while ago), that movie was another cliche movie called Are You Disturbed. That movie compared to this movie shows unbiased how a cliche can work well (as in Feast) and work badly (as in Are You Worried) . Both copy what we’ve seen before, but Feast revels in the passion, the gore, the humor, something that the other cliche lacks. Yes. Nothing novel under the sun you might as well say, at least in the dismay genre, but this can be a qualified thing or a dreadful thing depending on how you know your work in your hands. The people that bring us Feast know what we want, know what we like, and presents it in such a twist that keeps us glued to the action throughout the whole movie…something that many other movies out there in the panic field lack these days. I really hope that the director of this, along with the actors and actresses, along with the special effects people, go a long plan and will be seen again. The movie kind of reminds me of an early Stephen King (as in The Mist or Pet Semetary) or Clive Barker (Books of Blood), hasty, indignant, bloody, comic, and want we want in our alarm.

MADARA (1991) is a sword-and-sorcery anime based on a multi-volume manga adapted into two hour-long OAV episodes contained on this disc. Not only is the modern record greatly condensed, but its basic elements are jumbled quite a bit in the adaptation. “The Anime Encyclopedia” asserts that MADARA consists of four hour-long anime episodes, but the ending here gives no indication of a continuation and the DVD case makes no reference to any other volumes.

The anime tells of a boy, Madara, whose limbs, torso and body parts are made up of “gimmicks” (machine parts called “gadgets” in the manga), which give him greater powers than ordinary humans in this post-apocalyptic world over a thousand years in the future. Despite its future setting and occasional displays of high technology, everything looks awfully medieval and the denizens of this world include all sorts of grotesque monsters and animal-derived humanoid creatures, such as the giant wolf men who attack Madara’s village early on, mighty to their immediate regret. Madara goes off on a mission to gain and extinguish the demonic tyrant, Lord Miroku, with whom Madara has a secret connection. He is accompanied by an beautiful teen girl sidekick, Kirin, who has capable powers of her bear. At some point our hero is joined by two renegades from Miroku’s court, Chaos and Seishinjya, both of whom are much warriors in their contain correct. Their drag takes them through all sorts of rugged terrain, abandoned castles, underground chambers, and alternate dimensions before arriving at Miroku’s massive castle for the gigantic showdown.

A lot happens in the two hours it takes to squawk this account, but not at a very rapidly hump. There are long humdrum stretches which give viewers enough time to wonder why they should care. Clear, Madara and Kirin are cute and endearing, but they’re kind of callow and we don’t know what’s at stake for them. We don’t really win a sense of what kind of world this is, so we don’t ever feel anchored in any sense of community, any sense that things can be place accurate by Madara’s actions. What happens if he wins? How will things change? We don’t know. So there’s no suspense and no sense of emotional engagement.

It’s all adequately designed and captivating and there are occasional bursts of involving action, but overall it pales next to so noteworthy better sword-and-sorcery anime from Japan, such as the 1997 TV series, “Berserk” (also available on DVD) . There are occasional dramatic music cues by notorious anime composer Kaoru Wada (”Soundless Mobius”), but they are few and far between. The manga series is currently being published in English by CMX and may be of greater interest to fans of sword-and-sorcery tales than the anime.
