If you liked ALADDIN, you’ll love Disney’s THE EMPEROR’S NEW GROOVE, where outrageous comedy rules! Audiences and critics alike raved about this hilarious animated adventure. “Ebert & Roeper And The Movies” gave it “Two Thumbs Up.” Faster than you can say “Boom, baby,” arrogant Emperor Kuzco is turned into a llama by his devious advisor, Yzma, and her hunky henchman, Kronk, who want to rid the kingdom of this beast of burden. Now the ruler who once had it all must form an unlikely alliance with a pleasant peasant named Pacha. Together, Kuzco and Pacha must overcome their differences as they embark on a hilarious, “groovy” adventure that will have you howling with laughter.

Customer Reviews:

Funny as all git out5
This may be my favorite Disney movie ever. (I normally prefer Pixar.)

The reviewers who did not like it clearly expected something for small kids. It is not. It is very abstract in places, especially the art, which is really quite amazing. Watch for the design of the panthers, and the bats. And the landscapes. Wonderful stuff.

And the dialogue and the delivery especially is just hilarious. How you can get such delivery in an animated film is beyond me.

Warmly recommended for mature viewers with an edgy sense of humor.

Hilarious Film, Great DVD5
THE EMPEROR’S NEW GROOVE is the funniest movie that I have seen in years. I initially had passed on watching it in the theater because I thought it looked childish, but was convinced to give it a try now that it was out on video. Boy, was my initial impression wrong.

The story revolves around a selfish prince who is turned into a llama by one of his subjects. With the help of a kindly peasant he attempts to regain his throne, and in the process finds there’s more to him than he previously thought or wanted there to be. While the moral is a good one, it really plays a secondary role to the comedy, which is literally non-stop. GROOVE takes the rapid-fire humor that Disney perfected in Aladdin and combines it with cartoon-style hijinx, the wit of David Spade, and a hilarious lack of reverence for the traditional Disney animated genre. Spade plays his role to perfection, and luckily never crosses the line into being obnoxious. Seinfeld fans are in for a treat, as Puddy plays a very special side-kick role. You really can’t take your eyes off the screen for a minute, because you’re guaranteed to miss a gag of some sort. The humor works mainly on an adult level, even though kids will be rolling from the funny visuals and some of the more obvious jokes.

The DVD itself is a good one. The digital transfer was excellent and the sound quality is top notch. The commentary track is one of the better that I’ve heard, with interesting and funny insight from all contributors. Animated menus. There’s a deleted scene that was probably best left out, but is interesting to watch anyway, plus a few other fun features.

In the end, this is one of the best Disney flicks to come along in years. Hardcore Disney fans will eat it up. But even if you’re not a fan of Disney’s usual animated features you should give GROOVE a shot. Cast aside your pre-concieved notions and you just might be in for a very pleasant surprise. I was. FIVE STARS.

The Forgotten Disney Film4
“The Emperor’s New Groove” is a unique film in the vaults at Disney. It plays with the audience instead of in front of the audience, and the burning sarcasm of the emperor’s character isn’t found in any other Disney flick. Unfortunately, this movie seems to be cursed by the idea that any Disney movie has to be done on a grand scale and end with some great moral truth. Why can’t a Disney movie just be fun?
“The Emperor’s New Groove” doesn’t seem to draw as much attention as other Disney fare. It just kind of quietly appeared and then went away. That’s a shame. It got the same treatment from Disney that a lot of their direct-to-video/DVD movies received. At least “Hercules” got headlines for its bad, although undeserved, reviews. “Hercules” has always been erroneously treated like a red-headed stepchild compared to other Disney movies, “The Emperor’s New Groove” is treated like an abortion. You rarely here anything about this film. Like “Hercules,” it doesn’t fit the bill as a standard Disney movie. It doesn’t try to force it’s morals upon you, and you won’t be enlightened by any of the dialogue, but you will laugh. Kids will love it for the emperor-turned-llama silliness and adults will love it for the relationship between Spade and John Goodman. Eartha Kitt is glorious as Yzma, the villain in this tale. Patrick Warburton is perfect as Kronk, her sidekick.
Spade talks directly to the viewer as he narrates his tale, and makes sure throughout that you know the story is about him, and no one else. There is also a lot of adult humor in the film as well, much like in “Hercules.”
So, this movie is a fun-time film. You won’t be sorry to watch it, and your kids will love it as well. They may not be drawn to the characters as much as they would to a Belle, Snow White, or Simba, but they will enjoy this story. So will you.

Amazon.com
Originally developed as an epic called Kingdom of the Sun, The Emperor’s New Groove lost scale and most of Sting’s song score (some of which can be heard on the soundtrack) on its way to the screen. The end result is the lightest Disney film in many a moon, a joyous romp akin to Aladdin in its quotient of laughs for kids and adults. The original story centers on the spoiled teenage emperor Kuzco (David Spade), who enjoys getting the best of his Aztecan subjects. When he fires Yzma (Eartha Kitt), his evil sorceress, she seeks revenge and turns Kuzco into a llama with the help of her hunk of the month, a lunk named Kronk (Patrick Warburton). Alone in the jungle, the talking llama is befriended by Pacha (John Goodman), who has just been told to vacate his pastoral home by the human Kuzco. What’s an ego to do? That’s pretty much the story and the characters–simple, direct, fun–a Disney film on a diet. For any fan of the acidic humor of Spade, this is essential viewing. As narrator of his tale, Kuzco uses a sarcastic tone to keep the story jumping with plenty of fun asides (he even “stops” the film at one point to make sure you know the story is about him). Even better is character actor Warburton (Elaine’s stuck-up boyfriend on Seinfeld), who steals every scene as the dim-witted, but oh-so-likable Kronk. There’s even a delicious Tom Jones number that starts the film off with a bang. –Doug Thomas

Let me define up-front: The main attraction, “On Any Sunday,” earns 4 stars as a classic film. For any kid who saw this movie when it came out in 1971, it was a life-changing event. Most of us took up motorcycle riding because of it. And to discover it again after so many years is a exact thrill. It’s the free-spirited, shaggy-haired, helmet-optional, no-padding, sunshiny ’70s - with a parade of stale, now-extinct dirtbikes to drool over. As with “Endless Summer,” Bruce Brown shone sunshine upon a little-known pasttime and made it frosty, accessible and very approved.

The huge spot arises when Bruce’s son Dana takes the helm to offer the “revisited” supplementary DVDs. What Dana has keep together is a mish-mash of unused footage from the recent - along with some 30-years-later home-video interviews with Dad, Malcolm Smith, Mert Lawwill, and a handful of the other racer stars of the movie.

As the “writer,” Dana gives us only one-line-at-a-time, occasional cover text to negate the chronicle. It’s choppy, poorly written, grammatically flawed. For example, a sample line when Dana is explaining that we are seeing this footage for the first time. “It it being shown for the first time.” It it??!! How could they miss that? And did Dana not inherit any of Dad’s account skills? If you want us to feel that ragged Brown magic - then talk to us, don’t type minute bulletins across the veil with mis-spellings.

Buy,Download, Or Stream On Any Sunday 30th Anniversary Collection! Click Here

As “director” and “editor,” Dana chops together average footage from 30 years ago with shallow reminiscences from today. It feels like someone’s first project with a home-editing system. It looks like Bruce was interviewed at his dining room table - with no professional lighting and no professional camera work. And no professional interviewing skills. Stamp to Dana: The only device you’re going to pull entertaining stories from your interviewees is by asking exciting questions.

Ughh - I could go on and on. Long narrative short: acquire the movie, “On Any Sunday.” Skip the “revisit.”

This is a difficult spot of father/son directed films to rate. On Any Sunday gets 5 stars; the all time classic, perhaps best motorcycle film ever although I would believe The Road Racers a contender. The seriousness of the sport is not ignored, but Bruce Brown’s sense of humor always shines through. And the music is so perfect that I sometimes hear it in my head while riding my motorcycles. OAS is only 1 year younger than me, yet it does not feel particularly dated; it really is timeless. While I enjoyed the other films, and in particular the exhibit day interviews with the OAS riders in OAS Revisited, they really pale in comparison to the current. Like an earlier reviewer, I feel Dana Brown got a free pass from his dad to earn the sequels. They lack the humor, pacing, and with the exceptions of the former deleted scenes, cinematography of the current. I worship the new so great that I like the sequals more than I should. Level-headed, it is worth the notice of admission unprejudiced to discover Malcolm Smith and Mert Lawill 30 years later, and hear them disclose their believe stories in their acquire words. If only Dana Brown had the talent of his father, this would be an absolutely shining place. As is, I am detached ecstatic to have bought the area and passed on my unique On Any Sunday DVD to a seriously ill worn flat track rider, who I hope gets some joy from it.

Okay, there’s been a Huge mix up here. Well, maybe not so grand in the tremendous contrivance of things, but if you followed the DVD link from the imdb page for the film “Alien Predator”, which stars Dennis Christopher and…other people, to this Amazon page, DO NOT Assume THIS. Even though Amazon lists the details (cast, crew, etc.) as being that of the classic “Alien Predator”, the proper product this page is selling is a boxed station containing ‘Day of the Triffids’, ‘Graveyard Tramps’, ‘Track of the Moon Beast (featuring a man named Johnny Longbone), and the classic ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, NOT included in this box space, which is collectively titled “Alien Predators”, is the real FILM “Alien Predator”. Buyer beware.

On that effect, “Alien Predators” is a icy petite b-horror movie, and it would be nice to staunch glimpse it on DVD. Although you’d laugh your intention through most of it, there are actually a few scenes that are kinda’ creepy.

Alien Predators is a mixed bag for certain! Disc #1- Side A- The sci-fi classic DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS (beware, some later editions of this collection have replaced triffids with the lesser “killers from plot”) . Giant carnivorous plants attempt to grasp over the world after blinding the broad majority of the populace (with a outlandish meteor shower) . Can a exiguous band of sighted heroes effect the day? Side B- Shrimp SHOP OF HORRORS. All about a giant carnivorous plant (named Audrey Junior) and the boy who loves it. A Roger Corman masterpiece! Disc #2- Side A- GRAVEYARD TRAMPS (aka: INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS) . Mutated “Bee girls” attempt to bewitch over the world by… um… er… well, mating their male victims to death. Meanwhile, the head Bee girl is busy making her hive bigger. Lotsa nudity and laughs a plenty! Side B- TRACK OF THE MOON BEAST. A lunkhead gets beaned by a meteorite, which turns him into a murderous, reptilian psychopath. His girlfriend sticks by him anyway. Will upright like prevail? A schlock fest. This double disc is definitely worth the cheap ticket! Don’t miss it…

I am a die hard fan of the outmoded west, and particularly the lawmen and gunfighters. This was more to add to my collection of books I have already read. I probably would not recommend this to someone only mildly alive to in this genre since it is not particularly captivating. It does provide an overall ample summary of the Earp family with photos.

Well folks this is it. The staunch biography and better than the TV present. He knew that he was destined for fame. He lived his western life out and tried to utter people the loyal yarn of the West. He had the biggest influence on WS Hart and therefore, all westerns later. But, Hollywood kept glorifying the genuine chronicle and distorting the proper life of the mercurial diagram gunfighter. They do the same with soldiers and combat, also. This biography of Wyatt Earp is worth every penny.

Say what you want about producer/director William Castle (The Tingler, 13 Ghosts, Mr. Sardonicus) but one thing was for positive…he knew how to absorb seats in a movie theater, primarily by forcing some sort of shriek interaction between the audience and the film (at least in his fear themed features) . In House on Vexed Hill (1959), he utilized a technique he called `Emergo’, which essentially featured a skeleton, suspended from wires, coming from the veil towards the audience during a specific piece of the movie, the intent being to anxiety the pants off those in the theater. From what I’ve heard, it didn’t sound like many were shocked, but it didn’t really matter as Castle was a master at selling the sizzle, rather than the steak, as they say, and audiences flocked to his films…produced and directed by William Castle, the film features the merchant of menace himself Vincent Heed (The Wing, The Tingler, House of Usher) in the first of two films he made with Castle. Also appearing is Elisha Cook Jr. (Shane, The Horrified Palace), Carolyn Craig (Giant), Richard Long (Ma and Pa Kettle), Carol `homina homina’ Ohmart (Spider Baby), Alan Marshal (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), and Julie Mitchum (Edge of Hell), sister of actor Robert Mitchum.

Price plays Frederick Loren, an eccentric millionaire who, along with his wife Annabelle (Ohmart), has thrown together an intriguing minute party though-provoking five, seemingly random strangers gathering at a vexed house with ten thousand dollars to each who dare conclude through the night. In attendance, along with Frederick and his wife, is Watson Pritchard (Cook), whose brother, one of the previous owners, was murdered within the house, Lance Schroeder (Long), a test pilot, Dr. David Trent (Marshal), a psychiatrist, Nora Manning (Craig), a typist, and Ruth Bridgers (Mitchum), a newspaper columnist. Seems all have agreed to play Frederick’s tiny game for one reason, they need the dough, and if some crazy rich dude is willing to portion with his green for such a seemingly easy task, what the hay, moral? Well, the guests advance, introductions are made, and Frederick gives them the fat lowdown. The secluded house is like a fortress (steel doors and bars on the windows) in that once they’re locked in (at midnight, to be loyal), there’s no getting out until the caretakers near the next morning. Also, there’s no electricity or telephones, and the nearest neighbors are well beyond yelling distance. After a tour of the house, highlighting where various homely events occurred (including a visit to the acid vat in the cellar…man, this state has everything), a few drinks, and some scares (the ghosts seem to have a thing for Nora), Fredrick passes out some party favors in the develop of loaded handguns (nothing like being drunk and armed), not that they’d do anyone noteworthy obliging if there are ghosts out and about…anyway, midnight is coming so if anyone wants to prick out of this ghoulish obtain together, they’d better fetch while the getting’s beneficial…

While not my common Castle feature (that goes to The Tingler), House on Fearful Hill is composed a hoot and a half for all of its campy, good-natured fun. The one thing this film has going for it, above and beyond everything else, is Vincent Sign. No matter how depraved the feature was (which wasn’t the case here), Imprint always brought with him a trusty sense of class and sophistication to the proceedings, especially moral of the number of Poe based films he and Roger Corman made throughout the 1960s for American International Pictures. The absolute best parts of this movie for me occur early on as Price’s character is interacting with his wife, and we gaze the pair have an exciting hate/hate relationship…here’s an example of their often gross and insinuating banter they bewitch in unhurried closed doors…

Buy,Download, Or Stream House on Haunted Hill! Click Here

Fredrick: Of all my wives you’re least noble…

Annabelle: But tranquil alive.

Here’s another bit…

Frederick: Do you remember the fun we had when you poisoned me?

Annabelle: Something you ate, the doctor said.

Frederick: Yes, arsenic on the rocks…

There are a few more marvelous exchanges between Trace and Ohmart, kindly alone of seeing this film. As for the rest of the performers, I had no loyal complaints. Elisha Cook Jr.’s character did gain on my nerves after awhile, with his constant dour outlook punctuated by his persistent `doom and gloom’ predictions. Drink some more booze, you rummy…seriously, all this guy did was talk about how the ghosts were going to reach and choose them all away. Perhaps this attitude was assisted by his excessive alcohol intake, but really, what’s the point of accepting an invitation to employ a night at a house you maintain you won’t approach out of alive? The money? Won’t do you remarkable superior if’n you’re listless, fool. If I was in that house I probably would have shot him impartial to be rid of him. At least I learned one thing…never invite Elisha Cook Jr. to your party and ply him with lots of booze as he’ll turn into a sincere poison pill. I did like Ms. Ohmart, and not fair because she was a smoking babe with a tall rack, but because she held her fill with Trace, even if it was for objective a handful of scenes. If you’ve got a hankering to gape more of her, and you like ookie awe features, you should really check out another film she appeared in called Spider Baby (1968), featuring Lon Chaney Jr. There are a few, minor scares scattered throughout the film (a crusty crone, a disembodied head or two), but nothing that will construct you soil yourself…some scenes will originate you snicker, though, like the one where Pritchard chucks a uninteresting rat into the acid vat, if only to show the acid is really acid. After some bubbling effects, a fully articulated rat skeleton bobs to the surface, indicating to those watching it truly is the sincere deal. Yes sir, that be some considerable acid…the movie may not be mighty for scares, but it does have plenty of atmosphere created by Castle’s direction, groovy, cobweb laden area pieces, spooky music, and usage of the Ennis Brown House in Los Angeles, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, for the exterior shots.

It seems this film has fallen into the public domain (i.e. the copyright expired), as I seek there are a number of DVD releases by various companies. I can’t issue for those other releases, but the one I fill, do out by Warner Brothers (it has a great headshot of Designate in the lower factual hand corner and Ohmart in a nightgown being menaced by a disfigured hand in the upper left), looks exceptionally righteous, and features both the fullscreen and widescreen formats, along with a splendid Dolby Digital mono audio track. The only extras included are a theatrical trailer for the film and subtitles in both English and French.

Cookieman108

By the blueprint, this movie saw a remake of the same titled, released in 1999, oozing with high tech special effects. It was decent enough, but I unruffled liked the novel better.

William Castle at his gimmicky best! A Classic, spooky Sad and White, with deliciously devilish Vincent Ticket as millionaire with a bored gold-digger wife. She wants a Halloween party with her friends, Note tosses a party all correct, but not with the people of her choosing. He offers $10,000 dollars to five stranger if they will join him and his wife in spending Halloween night in a truly disturbed house. One of the 5 is a young Elisha Cooke, family of the used owners who died in the house, and he leads them on a assassinate tour. To jazz things up, Trace passes out “party favors” - guns. And it’s a speed to fetch out whether Notice of his wife will be the last one standing. This movie is a grandfather of nearly every clichés, blooding dripping from the ceiling, unlit mysterious corridors, a witchy woman floating around and vanishing - and the topper that organ music!! This is more like a Halloween Fun house hump than a movie! Designate is campy and has enormous fun with the role, with tidy lines, especially when fussing with his less than contented wife.

Castle originally devised this movie with “special touches” for the audiences, like ghost on wires gloating through the audience of people in costume sitting down beside you to enhance the fun house feel.
