Season 8 may be the last above average season of The Simpsons. It would not be long after this season when I stopped enjoying The Simpsons as considerable. Their account lines became increasingly over-the-top and the shows were often to intent on focusing on the celebrity of the week. This season starts to go in that direction with some way-out episodes, but is not quite there yet. “Treehouse of Alarm VII”: (a) The Thing and I: Bart finds out he has an inappropriate Siamese brother Hugo; (b) The Genesis Tub: Lisa conducts experiments with her fallen baby tooth and creates a mini society. When she is zapped into runt size, she warns the cramped society against the “Dim One” (Bart) ; (c) Kang and Kodos approach to earth posed as Bob Dole and Bill Clinton. Of course, with the two-party system, one of them has to come by.

“Bart After Dusky”: After Bart damages property at an spooky customary house, Homer forces Bart to work at the house which turns out to be a burlesque house.

“Brother From Another Series”: (Astronomical title) . Sideshow Bob is released from prison and joins forces with his brother Cecil (voiced by David Hyde Pierce, of course, Sideshow Bob is voiced by Kelsey Grammer–get the title? ) . Could Bob actually be the well-behaved guy in this episode???

“My Sister, My Sitter”: Lisa becomes Bart’s baby sitter and Lisa is worried she’s killed her brother after knocking him down the stairs. This one is a miniature over-the-top.

“Homer Vs. The Eighteenth Amendment”: One of my all-time favorites! Prohibition starts up again in Springfield and Homer assists Moe in creating a speakeasy. Can Homer out-fox Rex Banner?

“Grade School Confidential”: Significant Skinner and Mrs. Krabappel initiate a romance and compose controversy at Springfield Elementary. The Skinner is a virgin thing was a tiny considerable.

“The Canine Mutiny”: Bart gets enjoy of a spurious credit card and buys all kinds of stuff including a pedigree collie, Laddie. When repo-men reach to acquire the stuff, Bart gives them Santa’s Small Helper instead of Laddie and soon regrets the decision.

“Homer’s Enemy”: Frank Grimes is the unique employee at the nuclear power plant and, unlike everyone else, he doesn’t procure Homer’s incompetence. A very dim episode.

“The Simpsons Spin-off Showcase”: A 1970s-style variety expose take-off of The Brady Bunch. Objective as Jan refused to participate, Lisa is replaced by an actress who looks objective like her…yeah, proper!

“The Secret War of Lisa Simpson”: Bart is forced to enlist in military school and, impressed by the discipline which seems unfamiliar since Lisa is such a free thinker that one would not judge she’d be attracted to the unquestioning soldier’s life, she decides to join, too. And all the boys earn her…uh, no.

I looked forward to buying the next released season of The Simpsons on DVD every year, however, getting season eight this year is going to be a bittersweet occasion. Of course, I add yet another solid gold season of The Simpsons to my collection, but this in turn will result in the extinguish of my Simpsons collection. Yes, like many other reviewers of this DVD area on Amazon, I fraction the same sentiment that this is the last season worth buying. From season 9 and onward, the prove grew progressively worse in the long speed, and lost what made it worth watching in the first station.

Basically, this is the last season of The Simpsons that retained its witty sense of humor, and didn’t resort to unusual storylines and throwing in celebrity guest stars week after week. Episodes like “You Only Fade Twice” (I appreciate the 007 scene), “A Milhouse Divided”, “The Bent World Of Marge Simpson”, Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(ANNOYED Stammer) cious”, “The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Reveal”, “Homer’s Phobia”, and the classic “Homer’s Enemy” exudes the shows last ounces of genius from script to veil. The storylines of these episodes are delicious, and spicy from inaugurate to conclude. The witty humor of the past seasons is well retained in season eight with many side splitting moments of hillarity to exhibit it. In addition, season eight showcases further development of common characters, as well as the introduction of unforgettable fresh favorites like Frank Grimes and Poochie.

For people of all ages, this cartoon is a fabulous demonstrate. I remember watching as a child and even now as an adult I collected like watching it. It is one of the mountainous movies that I will be passing down to my children.

I read the other reviews below and have to disagree. I quite enjoyed this episode. It isn’t really a movie but a hour long episode of the expose. the care bears mainly featured are: Tenderheart, Funshine acquire, Grumpy occupy, and for you hugs and tugs fan out there Hugs and Tugs. Basicly the yarn is about (who else) the nutcracker who fair happens upon the carebears while they are on a caring mission. That caring mission then turns into a titanic adventure when the carebears and the nutcracker try to set aside toyland from a imperfect vizier. the side myth involves hugs and tugs and a young boy trying to win the perfect christmas deceration for the carebears christmas tree. I opinion this episode was really well written and is well worth the money. esp. for those of you who like hugs and tugs and can’t gather many episodes of the explain with them featured in them. by the draw, for those of you horrified about your kids being fearful by the vizier, don’t effort, he isn’t that scary. basicly this episode of the carebears is unprejudiced what it says on the box, “A Heartwarming Treat for the Whole Family” (or at least for your kids if you don’t like carebears) . the only thing is is that while it is the christmas episode, christmas dosen’t figure into it quite as considerable as you might reflect. The elements are there but it isn’t as vital as it is in other reveal around the holidays. I personally Recommend This Episode of the carebears to carebears fans of all ages.

To effect matters worse, the support of the box says “deleted scenes”. There is a deleted scene that was not in the theatrical release, but it isn’t worth watching, and it certainly doesn’t form up the scenes that were reveal in the theatrical release and that have been crop out of this DVD. In this case, “deleted scenes” should be taken to mean, “scenes that you probably remember from the theatrical release have been gash from this version.”

Anyone who objects to this sort of foolishness in distinguished should boycott this DVD. This isn’t the first time that I have encountered this. It seems to me that the studios should feel some sort of sense of obligation to not do this, whether artistic or ethical.

I can’t overemphasize the level of disappointment I have at the hack censorship Paramount management has engaged in with the DVD release of Ragtime. How they got Milos Forman to participate in adding commentary to that blatant smear of his efforts is is beyond me.

Does the studio actually mediate that diluting the film to “reposition” it (ergo, travel it from an R to a PG rating) is going to dramatically grow its appeal? The core market for this DVD is the universe of film fans aged enough to fondly remember seeing the current theatrical release in the early 1980s — but what the studio is offering them (as many reviews here clearly position) is unacceptable.

Through her fill struggles and interactions with the others, Susannah confronts in a memorable method some of the hot issues of the slack 1960’s, making this almost a nostalgia creep as well as a riveting human drama.

Here’s a gape inside a mental hospital that will amply entertain while it communicates a heart-rending angst unbiased as compellingly. Winona Ryder plays Susanna Kaysen, an inpatient in a true-life myth who told her experiences in the institution in a book of the same title. Her occupy fable is poignant but ever rivaled by that of other fellow patients. One is Georgina, Susannah’s sort-of happy-go-quirky roommate. There’s indeed some heavy stuff here. But it’s also highly watchable with humanity and sometimes humor radiant through the tragedy.

Italian director Mario Bava exploded onto the scare scene with the extraordinary sad and white film “Gloomy Sunday,” also known as “The Veil of Satan” (a title I capture because it does such a better job describing the movie) . This relate borrows heavily from a Nikolai Gogol short chronicle called “The Vij,” and while I am not familiar with the chronicle, the movie succeeds fantastically at conveying a bleak atmosphere of apprehension. “The Conceal of Satan” was Bava’s official directorial debut, giving viewers a chance to behold the genius that was to arrive from this apt filmmaker. Bava didn’t merely philosophize films, however. He also worked on all aspects of movie making during his long career. The director even helped his son carve his teeth in the business immediately before his death in 1980. Fans will miss Bava terribly after viewing fair a few of his films, as he was one of those rare Italian scare directors who could truly thunder the goods.

“Murky Sunday,” station in Romania, opens at an unspecified date in the seventeenth century. Some of the local nobles choose to collect together and roast a couple of Satan’s followers, but this barbecue bears a special meaning for the House of Vajda because one of its absorb is on the spit. Javutich’s corpse doesn’t fare as well; his body ends up in a grave in the cemetery. All’s well that end’s well after this incident, as Asa and Javutich kill away the centuries in their tombs.

Flash forward two hundred years. Two doctors traveling to a medical conference stumble upon the decaying Vajda crypt. In a fit of scientific defiance to peasant tradition, one of the doctors named Kruvajan bumbles around Asa’s coffin and causes some pain to it. From this point on, Bava takes his viewers on a roller coaster promenade of creepy imagery, walking corpses, vampiric transformations, and oppressive atmosphere rarely seen in even the best of dismay films. As the terror of “The Hide of Satan” unfolds, we meet the various characters who will play inspect to the resuscitated curse on the House of Vajda: Doctor Gorobec, the young, bold companion of Kruvajan destined to set aside the day; Katia Vajda, the expose princess of Vajda; and her frightened father and brother. Katia’s father knows about the curse of Asa, and he spends a vital fragment of his time worrying about it. Moreover, several people insist on the fabulous resemblance between Asa and Katia Vajda as seen in an worn portrait of the Satan worshipping princess. Does this similarity have anything to do with the Asa’s seemingly renewed deathbed curse? Probably, and the fun comes from watching it unfold through Bava’s masterful spend of cinematography, sets, atmosphere, sound effects, and grisly special effects.

That Universal apprehension films influenced “The Conceal of Satan” is so determined it really doesn’t need mentioning in the editorial review on this dwelling. Throughout the movie, I continually recognized these similarities. Perhaps the surprising revelation here is that Bava’s film is markedly better than many of the influences he supposedly borrowed from. Check out the coach sharp through the forest in complete silence, or the bound Javutich and the doctor bewitch through the castle. These are helpful effects accomplished without the back of CGI or worship prosthetics. Additionally, every movement of each character seems choreographed for maximum creepy achieve. I kept wondering how Bava managed to fetch his actors to recede so SLOWLY while making it gape so natural. Special mention goes to the eerily effective Barbara Steele, the actress who plays both Asa and Katia. I wouldn’t go as far as a few anxiety fans and say that this woman is tumble wearisome exquisite, but she is dazzling and the make-up effects musty on her face give her a ultra creepy appearance when she is playing Asa. I could go on and on about the things I liked in this movie. Everything works masterfully, giving “The Camouflage of Satan” a classic feel correct from the commence.

The DVD version of the film I watched carries a “Special Edition” stamp, meaning that you accumulate a Mario Bava biography and filmography, a trailer, a photo and poster gallery, and a commentary by Bava historian Tim Lucas. The package claims this is the uncut version of the film, always a trustworthy thing when you determine to ogle a fright movie. Mario Bava went on to manufacture a slew of films in a wide range of genres, but so far “The Screen of Satan” has been my most satisfying experience with this director. With Halloween correct around the corner, this film would nicely fit the bill for a home scare movie marathon.

Actually, my rating for this DVD version of “Murky Sunday” would be 5 stars for the video transfer, 5 stars for Bava’s cinematography (seen here like never before), 2 stars for the audio transfer, and 3 stars for the overall quality of the film itself. Bava was not a mountainous director, and didn’t like to be called a “cinematographer,” but this film really is a painting in motion: every scene is a paradigm of Gothicism — the cinematic equivalent of Gustave Dore. Like other

reviewers, I was floored by the print traditional for this disc: it looks, almost literally, like it was shot yesterday, and it’s almost impossible to beget the film is almost 40 years outmoded. If there are other films from this era that peep this pristine, I haven’t seen them. My only quarrel with the disc has to do with the dubbing. In all honesty, I feel this film sports one of the worst American dubbing jobs ever performed on a film, and the ample inquire of (which neither Tim Lucas nor anyone else seems to have raised) is this: WHERE is the unusual Italian-language version of “Shadowy Sunday,” and why wasn’t an attempt made to give us the unique dialogue with OPTIONAL English subtitles? Mr. Lucas would have us fill that this DVD was the new version, but obviously the entire cast is speaking Italian (duhhh - why else would you have to dub in English? ) . So, yes, I’m thrilled to have this blooming print, but hopefully in the future we’ll glean the new Italian dialogue and not have to endure the bad dubbing…

With repulsion levels at least comparable to Cannibal Holocaust, Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Feast, and other gory slasher landmarks, Eli Roth’s Hostel 2 reconfigures ideas of violence to test how down and dirty a horror film can get. The film raises the stakes, leaving those who wish to make a sicker film out in the lurch for the time being. This sequl, like the first Hostel, is set in and around a Slovakian factory where European students are kidnapped, tortured, and killed by rich businessmen who pay enormous sums to experience death firsthand. An international elite, all tattooed with a bulldog insignia, bid on young people to slaughter in a mob-organized, high-end, sex-slave trade catering to those with a death fetish. In Hostel 2, three girls from Rome, Beth (Laura German), Whitney (Bijou Phillips), and Lorna (Heather Matarazzo), are lured to Slovakia by a sultry, vampiric hottie (Vera Jordonova) who modeled for them in figure drawing class. Sidetracked and disoriented by some Pagan Slovakian festivals and luxurious hot springs, the girls slip away one by one, until the film moves inside the torture chambers. One client sits in a bathtub beneath her victim, who she slices with a scythe to bathe in blood, Elizabeth Bathory-style. Body parts fly as clients entering the facilities select their weapons of choice in a room full of knives, power tools, and rubber clothing. As ridiculous as it sounds, haunting soundtrack and cinematography set a disturbing mood. Morbid humor, for example when a chainsaw unplugs centimeters from a victim’s face, pays homage to Hostel 2’s schlocky predecessors. Fortunately, one survivor remains, providing an ounce of vengeful, and sexy, satisfaction. As in the best exploitation films, gratuitous sex and violence are the norm here. What will be a warning to some to avoid this grusome movie will be to others a cu to head straight to the theater. –Trinie Dalton
