Steve Martin is top billed in this film and he is genuine but the rest of the cast is fair as first-rate. This movie is actually divided into four separate parts-four different branch off’s of the same family (the father, his kids and their families) -that allows this delicate ensemble to narrate all the ups and downs of family life. It is a film that teaches without preaching and it’s lesson is clearly understood: in life, you can’t have the peaks without the valleys. And because of it every character comes to stark realizations about themselves and their relationships with other people. All the characters, that is, except the one played by Tom Hulce. But even that character is correctly written; it honest simply isn’t the just time for him to realize.The interactions between the father (Jason Robards) and his two sons (Hulce and Martin) yelp us grand about all three characters’ past, show and future. Unfortunately there isn’t any interaction between the father and the two daughters, played by Martha Plimpton and Dianne Wiest, but with so many characters to deal with and so many ties to bind, there simply wasn’t time. But the time the writers have is well spent indeed. Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel have taken a very basic understanding and expanded on it in a realistic and unique arrangement. It’s no wonder that all the characters are tied together so perfectly in the raze.Ron Howard has taken that script and directed these huge performers to superlative work. Very seldom have any of them been better. Martin shines in an everyman IT’S A Extraordinary LIFE portrayal of the father of three and the second oldest child of the four earlier mentioned. Not since ROXANNE had he given a performance of such range and depth. Dianne Wiest as his older sister won another Oscar nomination and is honest as superior as she was in HANNAH AND HER SISTERS. Martha Plimpton as the next oldest child is pretty as a mother torn between her high-tech-education-supporter-husband (Moranis, his best work since Small SHOP OF HORRORS) and her young childhood deprived daughter. Tom Hulce is the youngest of Jason Robards’ four kids and has the toughest role to play. He wasn’t given the one-liners the others have. His character isn’t likeable. His father obviously favors him at first, which is hard for the rest of the family as well as the audience to understand. But he portrays the character as it should be played-a wanderer with unstoppable dreams who is also to be pitied. Robards’ portrayal of the father is one of his best and should have garnered him another Oscar nomination. Through Robards’ father character we sight how his kids turned out the plan they did. And we search for him growing and learning as he finds you CAN boom an broken-down dog novel tricks. Joaquin Phoenix, here billed as Leaf (River’s kid brother as Wiest’s youngest) and Helen Shaw as Grandma, the matriarch of the family are also estimable. Keanu Reeves (Wiest’s son-in-law) and Mary Steenburgen (Martin’s wife) round out the cast beautifully. Randy Newman’s net is perfect and the song “I Treasure to Witness You Smile” is very infectious.Pulling everything together for a production is not an easy thing. When you couple that with the fact that in this movie, comedy and drama are blended together seemlessly, Howard and his cast and crew have created a moral care for. Being a perfect parent is not easy. Being a perfect person is impossible. If you are anything less, recognize this movie.

This looks broad. Some reviewers seem to miss the point. FILM of this age has grain in it. Blu-ray should give you the experience of watching FILM. If you are a fan of actually watching movies in a beneficial theater feel trustworthy buying this.

When it comes to Fargo or any other movie by Joel and Ethan Coen, you either like them or despise them. I myself appreciate their fresh style and pacing, starting with Blood Simple abet in 1984. This movie from 1996 brought them into the spotlight with many oscar nominations.

The represent is elegant nice. This movie has very nice, high level of natural grain. It looks very trim and provocative, while maintaining a nice cinema leer. The thing that stands out most on this title is the tall detail in the outdoor landscapes. The snowy landscape looks so intellectual and consuming. The whites are smart orderly without any elegant. So noteworthy detail that you may not have noticed on the standard dvd. Remarkable like No Country For Former Men, it is a broad looking movie. I cant say that it looks as superior, but it is in the same ballpark, though that mat be out in left field! This movie is 12 years broken-down to be elegant. The night time scenes glance nice and entertaining also. You wont miss anything. The blacks are deep and stable. This movie has so remarkable incandescent color to it. It really makes this movie standout when compared to the standard dvd special edition. The closeups have immense intracate detail. The skintones are proper on the money as well. One thing that really amazed me is unbiased how rough these actors complections really witness! Man! The narrate has been cleaned up and has petite to no hurt or blemishes on the film itself, except the first few minutes with the opening credits. It appears that MGM has taken capable care of this movie. The narrate does have that 3 dimentional pop that makes the title worth owning. Everything is in focus and appears to be a current transfer. Everything from the facial details to the great snowy plains acquire this title really stand out. Relate is a 9 out of 10. A ” B+ to A-” would be a delicate grade on record.

The audio track on this movie is titanic. I know that many people will wonder why I would give this movie an A for audio on a somewhat insensible paced drama. It unprejudiced sounds satisfactory! While there are not many action scenes or shootouts, this movie does have a very superior soundtrack. The voices are nice and desirable without any distractions. The volume is loud also. While most of the sound is coming from the center/front speakers. The rear speaker kick in to give some substantial effects now and then. The subwoofer does not obtain a ton of exhaust however. There were a few scenes that stale the paunchy surround system, but for the most allotment it was the front 3. The most distinguished fragment is that it made the best from what it has to offer. If you are expecting the soundtrack from Ironman, you will be disappointed. Overall grade for audio would be another ” B+ to A- “.

There are some extras for those who are fervent. Commentaries, trivia, trailer, Tv spots, making of featurette also. It is BD live, but I did not exercise this feature.

Overall grade should be a B+ at the lowest, to an A- at best, or around 9 out of 10. Well worth the $19.99 if you liked this movie. Blows away the standard dvd. I know, I had several of those past releases. MGM did a tremendous job on this one. While the movie is not perfect, this Blu-Ray title is far ahead of any past releases. Giving this travel a 5 out of 5 was tough. While a 4.5 would be a perfect grade from me, that is not an option. So, one must determine which side of the fence it falls on. For me…the upgrade from the last two standard dvd’s pushed it to the 5 note. Remember one thing though, while Ironman looks and sounds a 5 out of 5, that does not mean that this movie looks and sounds as trustworthy. You cant compare apples to oranges!

Being an avid DVD collector I have made it a personal goal to gather every Dragon Dynasty release. This subsidiary of the Wienstien Company has gone to immense lengths to release ultimate unedited editions of huge Asian movies. Some of the films they are releasing were previously released on the Dimension home video ticket and are being re-released under the Dynasty price with more special features and..well most of the time…unedited versions of the Asian release. The Jet Li film Twin Warriors (as titled on the Dimension release) was re-released unedited under the title Tia Chi Master. I was hoping for the same with Supercop.

Sadly the the Dragon Dynasty release of Supercop is honest a more special featured filled version of the earlier Dimension release because,for some reason unknown, Dyanasty has only released the American cleave of the film. Where is my unedited 100 dinky version of Police Yarn III: Supercop? Instead we glean the same edited American release with a different find, added hip-hop soundtrack, and a lame title sequence. This is a shame because I have always been extremely satisfied with Dragon Dynasty’s releases so far. Why not include both the U.S. and Asian version as they did with The Proctor DVD? Extremely disappointing.

Other than the fact that Supercop is the edited American version, the rest of the DVD site is a typical steller Dynasty release with spacious special features and another stout commentary by Hong Kong film expert Bey Logan.

Supercop is the North American name given to the third installment of the current Police Tale series starring international action movie star Jackie Chan. It was the first film in the franchise not to be directed by Jackie but instead by Stanley Tong. It was also the last film in the series to feature actress Maggie Cheung as Jackie’s girlfriend.

The first disc features an racy audio commentary by Hong Kong cinema expert Bey Logan. He talks about the differences between this version and the Hong Kong version. For example, there were different opening credits and musical scores for each version. This begs the interrogate, why wasn’t the Hong Kong version included on this supposedly “Ultimate Edition? ” Logan provides brief biographical information on Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung as well as a wealth of production details on this very informative track.

The second disc starts with a accurate treat: “Flying High: An Unusual Interview with Star Jackie Chan.” He talks about working with director Stanley Tong, who, at the time, was a young director. Jackie talks about working with Yeoh and speaks admiringly of her ability to do her possess stunts. He also recalls how stupefied he was doing the helicopter sequence.

Supercop is a fun, absorbing and piquant film that you would request from Jackie Chan. It has all kinds of cheesy jokes, top notch fight scenes and insanely choreographed breeze sequences, all done without the assistance of computer technology. In this day and age there is something refreshing about that.

While honest having this Godzilla film finally on position 1 DVD, is cause for celebration, there is considerable more to this release than impartial the movie itself. With the addition of a large bundle of extra features adding to the fun, and a nicely designed package this becomes a very obliging lift. But while the film quality is mostly above average or acceptable, it is unfortunately (though not unexpected) a bit below average at times. Unprejudiced don’t request crystal clarity all the arrangement through the entire film.

Good points:

1) The movie itself is one of the best of the Godzilla films. This is from the originators of the franchise and this being the fifth in the series, Toho studios and this production crew are at the height of their game here. Ghidorah’s introduction as mentioned in other reviews, is very memorable. The human characterizations are fully realized and completely believable. Very animated and compelling interaction between all the main characters. This is actually one of the better plotlines in a Godzilla film and if you subtract the Godzilla allotment of the movie, it’s smooth a fairly compelling situation. Princess escapes death by unseen alien assistance, she becomes a spokesperson for the aliens and pleads with the earthlings to be forewarned of the emminent disasters that await. Foreign assasins attempt to catch her and destroy her. Police are interested in her protection as well in finding out why she now has the personality of an alien. The structure of the account is very well formed and does not have the hokey kind of plots that are reminescent of the vulgar budget 1960’s era sci-fi genre.

2) The package has a very current contemplate and obtain to it. The Obi band is a nice touch. And it appears remarkable like the “Mothra vs Godzilla” package or the “Godzilla Raids Again” package. Very sure, utilizing poster art from the era in which it was originally released, encapsulated in what appears like a film canister “peruse” to it, as a fold initiate style book. The center spine creaks a bit too grand when it opens though. But perhaps it’s appropriate as it further reflects the age of the unique film.

3) The extras are well done. Poster gallery, commentary by godzilla “expert” and trailers and a beautiful documentary on Eiji Tsuburaya. The poster gallery includes brief explanations regarding each poster, which is a superior addition.

4) Sound quality is very apt. The introductory come by grabs your attention and sustains throughout the movie. Dialogue mix has been improved over previous releases and there is a very noticable inequity between the 50’s era toho pictures and this time period of mid to slow sixties. All the groundbreaking sound effects are here in lustrous and beefy mono, with both the Japanese and U.S. dialogue tracks fully represented. Some will be disappointed by a lack of sound options, but the sound is as it was originally released in 1964 with a mono soundtrack.

5) The anamorphic widescreen characterize and image for the Japanese edited version while not pristine, and considering it’s 40+ year aged age, is not dreadful. Spots and scratches appear from time to time, though not glaringly so. It’s hard to contain that this movie could inspect perfect after all these years, and it certainly does not. But here in all it’s elephantine color glory is about as wonderful as it can glimpse, which isn’t terrible at all and actually quite definite for most of the movie. Disagreement is consuming, color is balanced well, images are crisp. And while there is some expected minor fading and it is at times too murky or too light, it does not detract from the overall presentation and most viewers will be elated with the film quality. Of course it will not compare favorably to a film released recently, but with the age that this film is and the fact it is of the grievous budget variety, it is comparable to other DVD releases from movies of this time period.

Bad points:

1) The American edit otherwise known as “Ghidrah, the Three Headed Monster” suffers from a worse looking image quality than the Japanese edit version. Moral from the opening titles, the relate is blurry, colors are washed out, scratches and spots exist throughout. Incompatibility is terrible and unbalanced, and though the majority of it looks about average or above, at times it looks like a VHS quality image. Most of the other Godzilla releases are respectable in image quality compared to this U.S. edited version. The American Ghidrah definitely shows it’s age. In addition several edits and changes from the new Japanese edit, detract needlessly. For example, editing out nearly the entire Mothra song that the peanut twins philosophize in calling for Mothra’s assistance. There was no expedient reason for cutting the song out. The images remain but different music has been inserted at that point. Sometimes the U.S. edit works better with dramatic music at positive points. In this particular instance it was ill advised.

2) The commentary, while worthy appreciated for all the huge amounts of information and anecdotal memories, becomes extremely uninteresting after a while. David Kalat proves from the outset that his knowledge of the subject matter is robust and authoritative as he covers a lot of ground in diminutive bursts. But with one person talking almost non cessation, it becomes listless to listen to. Perhaps another commentator teamed with him might have broken the monotony a bit, and could have offered another viewpoint to sure details. Also, while Kalat touches upon the differences in the U.S. and Japanese releases in a very detailed manner, it would have helped to have camouflage shots accompany his descriptions. Sometimes his knowledge goes beyond that of most viewers and he seems to acquire everyone is able to follow moral along. On the other hand, the personal stories of his contain children’s interest in Godzilla and it being the main reason he himself has altered his attitude towards dubbing, was a very engaging and illuminating observation. He definitely hit the nail on the head with those comments, which could apply to practically every person watching, be they longtime fans or casual viewers. Also, his information regarding the toho studios production schedules and how they were producing quite a few films in short periods of time, with some productions overlapping others, whilst using the same production teams, was quite exciting. So all in all a very obedient release, and while not perfect is collected a very beautiful, complete movie package. Classic Media have proven with previous releases that they are qualified of producing mammoth products, and they continue that trend here with this release of one of the older, more rare Godzilla films and one that has not truly had a legitimate U.S. release…until now. I rate it 4 stars and a recommended select, with expansive extra features and a generously informative, though sometimes insensible commentary track.

It has been years since I’ve seen The Region, and the moment I saw the commercial for it on TV, I immediately ordered it. It’s a mountainous DVD status with some really worthwhile bonus features, particularly the cast commentaries.

That being said, yes, the music replacement is quite noticeable, as is the frequent and sometimes scene devastating blurring of any and all images that might require MTV to pay something for their prove. The insert that comes with the DVD residence claims that to include these images and songs would have cost millions and forbade the production of the DVD. I accumulate that hard to occupy.

How grand is it going to cost to have a characterize of Andrew Shue on a goofy homemade collage? Or some obscure album hide from 15 years ago? I can’t imagine those would cost all that considerable. With all of Ford’s current ‘touches’ clearly in evidence (the doorways ‘framing’ the film’s opening and conclusion, with a cave opening serving the same function at the film’s climax; the extensive spend of Monument Valley; and the nearly lurid palette of color highlighting key moments) and his reliance on his ’stock’ company of players (Wayne, Ward Bond, John Qualen, Olive Carey, Harry Carey, Jr, Hank Worden, and Ken Curtis), the film marks the emergence of the ‘mature’ Ford, no longer deifying the innocence of the era, but dealing with it in human terms, where ‘white men’ were as superb of savagery as Indians, frequently with less justification.

I have heard a lot of his material on XM Comedy and saw him on Bananas. When we were having some couples regain together I bought it to gaze with them. I watched it once before the accept together and then my kids wanted to recognize it so watched again. We loved it each time, but then by the time we got to the get-together I did not ask to laugh remarkable as it was all so familiar. Was I immoral! I laughed harder than ever as the group was howling. Adding the laughing dynamics of others was magical in itself.

My suggestion is earn it and invite at least 3 or 4 couples over in the age group of 30 to 60 who have kids. Although so many comedians these days cannot seem to create a joke without crudity, Jeff Allen is not one of them. He does a vast job of keeping the audience entertained without resorting to the gutter. I recommend this one as well as anything by Brad Stine.
