Great rendition5
Not having seen the television version of Horton Hears a Who, I can’t say whether this is better or not. But it’s a perfect rendition on its own, and I found it thoroughly enjoyable—as did a 16-year-old with whom I saw the film yesterday.

There are marvelous Seuss-like characters animated on the screen, and their personalities match 100% those of the original two-dimensional Horton, Morton and friends who graced the pages of the good Dr.’s wonderful book.

My fondest memories of Horton include his egg-hatching episode. But that in no way diminishes the delight of seeing our old Elephant companion, dancing and prancing his way up a mountain side—through myriad obstacles—to a safe little cave where the Whos and their Whoville can safely reside.

Children young and old, including grandparent-variety kids, will love this delightful and colorful tale about sticking to one’s highest goals, through thick and thin, and against the advice of all one’s friends.

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. - Dr. Seuss4
The classic Seuss tale makes it to the big screen and I was very happy with the results. I usually find that children’s books made into movies can be unnecessarily long and drawn out to make a decent movie time; therefore they tend to drag a bit for this big kid at the theater. I thought this one was great, a perfect length and it held the interest of my two year old niece who made her debut at the theater that day. When the movie was over she excitedly asked “are we going to watch it again?”

This movie has all the quirky scenery that you expect from Dr. Seuss; from the funky trees and crazy houses, to the wonderfully imaginative Who’s, nothing disappointed. I was a little afraid to see this as Jim Carey usually grates on every nerve I have with his overacting and hyperactive persona, but he made a delightful Horton and I found myself enjoying him for the first time in years.

I recognized a lot of the voices and thought them extremely well cast; Carol Burnett as a villain was a surprise and a treat. My sister and I laughed out loud a lot throughout this film, we enjoyed it as much if not more than our kids. The lessons in Horton Hears a Who are simple and one can’t help but think how the world would be a better place if everyone had a little more Horton in them. I really found the whole movie fun and this is definitely a movie I will purchase when it makes it to DVD.

The Audience is Listening5
When Ron Howard’s version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” was released in 2000, I was amazed at the artistry, with the world of Dr. Seuss being brought to life through whimsical sets, creative make up and costumes, and impressive special effects. But even then, it still didn’t feel entirely Seussian; the limits of live action filmmaking were present from the start. Such a problem doesn’t exist in the case of “Horton Hears a Who!” a computer animated cartoon that looks and feels exactly the way a Seuss story should look and feel. Of the three films made from his material, this is the first one that completely convinced me to believe what I was seeing. It’s also the only one with compelling characters and deeper levels of story. This is wonderful because it tells me that the filmmakers had all audiences in mind, not just children.

“Grinch” alumnus Jim Carrey voices the title character, a happy-go-lucky elephant living in the lush jungle of Nool. On the fifteenth of May, his big ears detect noises from a speck of dust floating in the air. It soon lands atop a fuzzy pink flower called a clover, and at that point, Horton realizes that the noises are actually voices. It turns out that the speck contains the microscopic city of Whoville, the home of the equally microscopic Whos. Theirs is a world fully realized, a world of misshapen buildings and swirling clouds and wacky gizmos, all of which are perfectly suited for such a bizarre-looking population. The limbs of the Whos are a little too thin and lanky. Their stomachs are a little too round. Their heads are a little too big. This is exactly the way they should look–when it comes to Dr. Seuss, odder is definitely better.

Horton soon makes contact with the Mayor of Whoville (voiced by Steve Carell), who not only has a city to run, but also has his hands full with a wife (voiced by Amy Poehler) and ninety-seven children (ninety-six of which are daughters). The upshot of this is negative for both main characters. No one in Horton’s world believes that voices are emanating from a speck, least of all Kangaroo (voiced by Carol Burnett), an uptight woman who only believes in what she can see, hear, and touch. Likewise, not a single Who believes that their Mayor is communicating with an invisible elephant living in the sky. It all basically boils down to belief–just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

As the Mayor struggles to maintain his city–recently plagued by tremors and immediate changes in climate–Horton remains determined to keep the Whos safe because, “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” Unfortunately, he has to deal with Kangaroo, who finds his line of thinking so threatening that she hires a ruthless vulture named Vlad (voiced by Will Arnett) to destroy the clover. Consider the fact that Horton’s basic goal is to keep a flower safe from harm: In what way does this pose a threat to jungle life, seeing as Horton never once asked for anyone else’s help? Obviously, there’s no threat at all. Kangaroo is merely a control freak, demanding that others believe what she believes without stopping to question the status quo. The Mayor of Whoville has a similar problem with his elected officials, who overstep their bounds frequently and with no apology. Apparently, they would rather die than let the Mayor postpone the upcoming Who-centennial.

In case I haven’t made it clear by now, yes, “Horton Hears a Who!” is in part a social commentary. But don’t sell it short–it’s above all a delightful family film, and probably one of the funniest of recent memory. There’s a sequence in which Horton imagines he’s in an episode of “Pokémon,” fighting off the bad guys with martial-art moves; the Japanese-style animation in traditional 2-D was absolutely hilarious. I also enjoyed the plethora of side characters, all of which add their own comedic touches to the story. Horton’s best friend is a blue mouse named Morton (voiced by Seth Rogen), and his tail ends in an odd curlicue, as is appropriate for a Dr. Seuss character. There’s also an odd but cute yellow puffball named Katie (voiced by Joey King), who tries to go along with Horton by holding a clover of her own: “In my world, everyone’s a pony, and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!”

The most prominent side character in Whoville is the Mayor’s only son, JoJo. He’s a brooding young man who refuses to speak to his father, not because he doesn’t love him, but because he’s afraid of being a disappointment. He’s expected to become Mayor someday–like his father and his father’s father and so on–and this is something he just doesn’t want to do. Little does he realize just how important he is, not only to his family, but also to the entire city of Whoville.

As good as these characters are, there’s no question that Horton is the best thing about the movie. He’s a funny character, yet his personality isn’t overshadowed by pure goofiness. He’s loyal to those who are kind, yet he doesn’t reject those who are not. He’s loveable, yet he’s not forced to take part in sappy subplots. Everything about the big fella is just right, and the same can be said for the movie as a whole. “Horton Hears a Who!” is the best Dr. Seuss adaptation yet, and it will probably be one of the year’s best animated films; it’s funny, smart, heartfelt, and engaging, a welcome combination for a film that easily could have been just another mindless cartoon. What we have here is rare: A family film that both children and adults will love. This elephant really is faithful one hundred percent.

Dr. Seuss’s classic 1954 book Horton Hears a Who has entertained generations of children and served as the inspiration for a 26-minute, 1970 television special Dr. Seuss’s Horton Hears a Who and the 2000 Broadway musical Seussical: The Musical. This 2008, full-length animated movie features the voice talents of Jim Carrey as Horton, Steve Carrell as the Mayor of Whoville, Carol Burnett as the Kangaroo, and Jesse McCartney as JoJo and promises to delight a whole new generation of children and their parents and grandparents. The technological wonders of computer animation have allowed 20th Century Fox Animation to bring to life the wacky, colorful Whoville with its minute inhabitants and the lush Jungle of Nool with its host of distinctive animals and the result is a rich, fantastical world of wonder worthy of Dr. Seuss’ own imagination. All the major plot elements of Dr. Seuss’ book are present, with Horton hearing the faint cry for help from a tiny dust speck atop a small clover and doing his best to protect the inhabitants of that small civilization of Whoville despite the disbelief, disdain, and persecution of his fellow animals. The feel of Dr. Seuss’ original rhyming prose is partially preserved in the sparse narration by Charles Osgood that’s interspersed throughout the film’s dialogue and the overarching themes of staying true to one’s convictions and the celebration of the power of perseverance, imagination, and kindness come through loud and clear. Horton Hears a Who is a fun rendering of a classic Dr. Seuss story that’s sure to entertain viewers of all ages. –Tami Horiuchi

Gundam Flit is not unprejudiced my popular Mecha. Nor is it merely my well-liked reveal. It is my popular ANYTHING. Granted, it may not be for everyone, but it is definitely the deepest reveal I’ve ever seen on television. I have watched the entire expose through at least twice, and some episodes I have seen more than a dozen times (Portrait of a Ruined Country and The Gundam They Called Zero are two of my favorites) . This reveal is all about three things.

First and foremost, Gundam Cruise is about the politics of war. There are so many site twists that if you miss a single episode you may net completely lost. What starts out looking like your average expose (first-rate guys fight terrible guys, trustworthy guys beat dreadful guys, explain) quick changes. Within the first 10 episodes, the main character will try to attack innocent people, the world government will be overthrown, and our heroes will begin to wonder who exactly their enemy is. As the series goes on, things fair gain more and more complicated as military organizations are created, destroyed, and double crossed.

The second thing this series is all about is action. In every episode there will be Mech battles, and some of them are truly spectacular. Every once in a while, one of the Gundams will do something so cold, the moment objective leaves you thinking “Whoa.” And as the series goes on, the battles pick up more and more complex, and more and more heated.

But the third thing this series has going for it is character development. Treize Kushrenada is my view of what would happen if James Bond became the leader of Spectre. Is he really wicked, or unbiased misunderstood? He eventually finds himself an outdated dinosaur, clinging to ideals that have becomes outdated with the times. Lady Une is one of the best examples of a person with split personalities I’ve ever seen. At first you disapprove her, but as you near to understand why she does what she does, you actually near to feel sorry for her.

This series has many astronomical characters played by mammoth voice-actors. Heero is tremendous. Relena is solid. Even Hildi and Noin are mountainous. But my two popular characters in the series have got to be Dororthy and Zechs. Dorathy plays every scene with a perfect hint of sarcasm that constantly keeps you guessing if she’s being genuine, or laughing inside at someone’s actions. And then there is Zechs Marquise…

In the English version of Gundam Skim, Brian Drummond gives the single greatest portion of voice-acting I’ve ever seen in my life. He is PERFECT as Zechs Marquise. Zechs is a complex character. And I really feel that’s he’s the one that holds the series together. He’s 19 year customary who talks with an wintry disclose. He’s ALWAYS serious. The only thing that matters to him is honor. And in his quest to do the good thing, he is forced to betray his friends, protect his family, approach end to death, and even extinguish his have men. But like a tragic hero out of a Shakespearian tragedy, he is trapped by his actions. Never doing nothing, and never quite taking enough action, he lets a poor site escalate until it’s completely out of control and he’s completely lost his mind (or has he? ) . Zechs is the perfect tragic hero/villain (depending on your point of concept) .

Some have complained about the animation in this display, but personally I adore it. The watercolor style backgrounds and grand Mecha designs are a winning combo in my book. I also really cherish the music.

If you admire a complex political drama with expansive action and characterization, you owe it to yourself to give Gundam Waft a try. If you peaceful have doubts, search the accept and download the long toonami promo (the best promo or trailer I have ever seen for anything) . Suit up!

I don’t know why I despise the Gundam series so noteworthy. I’ve watched a majority of them, the many spin-offs and the like, and I collected haven’t found an interest in any of them.

But I reflect one reason is because the first Gundam series I saw was Gundam Sail. This anime wicked me. While I’ll never reflect it better than Evengelian, it certainly sits nearby as one of the best mecha animes. The politically driven storyline is a refreshing change to anime. It leaves diminutive room to breath as it has dinky comedy in it. The action–whether it takes space in mechas in site, on land, or outside of those giant robots period–is well arresting. The characters are estimable and varied, never repeated despite such a tall cast. And nothing in the anecdote happens without a reason. Anime has a contrivance of inserting things to earn a laugh, add an extra action scene, or add length to the series (remember all the shouting in DBZ) ; Gundam Sail doesn’t do this. All in all, it carries itself well in its twenty-six episode course, and is easily, at least to me, the best of the Gundam series. I recommend this for anyone who loved Evangelian.

To date, Chiune Sugihara is the only Japanese person who has been recognised by Yad Vashem as being one of the Splendid Among the Nations. I was lucky and privileged enough to eye this film when the director showed it at a special screening at my university, a limited intimate crowd in one of the rooms in the East Asian flee of the foreign language building. She really went to a lot of hard work to research Sugihara’s life and to bring that epic to life.

Sugihara was a Japanese diplomat who was stationed in Lithuania on the eve of WWII, when a number of people from Poland had recently fled there. They, as well as many native Lithuanians, were desperate to leave Europe, or at least the share occupied by the Nazis, before it was too slow. Even incandescent he was breaking a lot of regulations and rules, Sugihara kept issuing visas, even having to forge them sometimes. Even as his remark was pulling out of the spot when he was recalled because of his behavior, he was calm writing visas for people clinging onto the sigh, and he continued making out visas in the hotel he arrived at afterwards. The visas were written for the Dutch-controlled Curacão, but none of the people ever made it that far. They were able to go to Japan, the alleged stopping-off point, but were able to stop there for the entire war. In all, he wrote about 2,500 visas, including ones for the entire Mir Yeshiva. Because he had broken the rules and written these visas without authorisation, Sugihara was dismissed from his job when he returned to Japan in 1947, and spent most of the rest of his life doing unique jobs. It wasn’t till leisurely in his life that he was finally recognised for the mettlesome thing he’d done, and like many people whom Yad Vashem has honored, felt he hadn’t done anything special, but had only done what was just, what was expected, what a normal compassionate decent human being should do in such circumstances. This documentary does legal justice to him, narrating a sage about an ordinary human being who acted heroically in amazing circumstances.

One of the most incredible stories I’ve seen about WW2. It comforting to know even within the ghastly horrors of WW2 such compassion and decency existed.

To thank Sugihara for a nice deed, a jewish family invites him over for their Hanukah celebration. He is touched by the candle lighting ceremony. Sugihara who before this event knew puny about Judaism would subsequently work to place 10,000 Jews from the ensuing Holocaust.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sugihara - Conspiracy of Kindness! Click Here

After the war Sugihara had to leave his family to work in Russia, under an assumed name (as he was stunned the Russians would not allow him to enter if they knew he was a prior diplomatic officer who manuevered against Russia) . He living conditions were so unpleasant that his son lamented that when he went to visit, Sugihara was reduced to eating potatoes boiled in a dinky pot above the toilet.

He was recognized for his deeds only very slow in life as no one knew he was in Russia under an assumed name. The most touching moment in the movie is when the son of a Sugihara survivor comes to pay his respects to Sugihara’s wife and breaks down in tears as he thanks her for her husband efforts. It would be hard for anyone to preserve their eyes dry at this moment.

This fantastic myth is told very well via a combination of reenactments, narratives and interviews. Valuable time is spent on the post war life of Sugihara, his family and the survivors making this a very complete history.

A powerful film noir classic, “Chinatown” finally gets the deluxe treatment it deserves on DVD. While the previous edition looked quite fine (and had some nice interviews), this edition features a sharper, more intellectual transfer. Additionally, we acquire a three share documentary on the making of the movie focusing on the preproduction, filming and impact of the film with Jack Nicholson, Roman Polanski, Robert Evans and writer Robert Towne participating. Sadly, Faye Dunaway doesn’t appear in any of the extras. I had hoped for a commentary track (even one cobbled together of various interviews from the entire surviving cast and production crew) and the discovery of any deleted scenes for this edition but neither is included.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Chinatown! Click Here

The latest edition of “Chinatown” has noteworthy better dissimilarity, a cleaner, richer looking transfer that more accurately captures a pristine theatrical presentation of the film. The anamorphic transfer has a bit more information on the sides than in the previous edition suggesting that it was cropped slightly differently (and I can’t say which is truer to the novel this edition or the previous one) . Audio features the same 5.1 Dolby Digital mix that was a highlight of the first edition. We also acquire a cleaned up unique mono soundtrack for purists. Both sound very ample with the 5.1 featuring a nice dynamic mix.

This unique edition is a marked improvement over the previous DVD version and highly recommended.

“Water is the life blood of every community.” With this statement, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s website begins its biography of William Mulholland, the accurate life model of two of this movie’s characters, water department chief Hollis Mulwray (an positive play on words) and water tycoon Noah Foul. And indeed water, the access to it and the wealth it provides, is what drives everything and everybody in this movie status in the ever-thirsty Los Angeles of the first decades of this century, a budding relate town on the brink of victory or decay … and whether it will be one or th other depends on the city’s ongoing access to drinking water.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Chinatown! Click Here

“Chinatown”’s sage is based on William Mulholland’s greatest coup; the construction of the Owen Valley aqueduct which provided Los Angeles with a genuine source of drinking water but also entailed a lot of controversy. Splitting Mulholland’s complex real-life persona into two fictional characters (the good Mulwray who thinks that water should belong to the people and who refuses to authorize an unsavory unusual dam construction project and the greedy, unscrupulous Inappropriate who will employ *any* means to arrive his personal fortune) creates the movie’s one valuable dim and white conflict … other than this, the predominant shades are those of gray.

Into the wars raging around L.A.’s water supply, private peer Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) is unwittingly thrown when a woman introducing herself as Hollis Mulwray’s wife asks him to investigate her husband’s alleged infidelity. Before he realizes what is going on he is drawn into a web of treachery and treason, and fatally attracted to the dependable Mrs. Mulwray (Faye Dunaway), Noah Nasty (John Huston) ’s daughter. Soon reaching the conclusion that he has been primitive, he refuses to tumble the investigation, and instead decides to dig his plot to the source of the scheming he has witnessed - the classical film noir setup.

To say that this movie is one of the best examples of the genre ever made is stating the distinct … actually, it borders on being superfluous. Few other films are as tightly acted, scripted and directed, from Jack Nicholson’s dapper-dressed, dogged Jake Gittes, who like any generous noir detective is not half as hard boiled as he would have us beget, to Faye Dunaway’s seductive and dim Evelyn Mulray, John Huston’s cold-blooded and gross Noah Sinful, Roman Polanski’s brooding direction and Robert Towne’s award-winning hide play, so plump of memorable lines and the classical noir gumshoe dialogue, yet far more than fair a well-done copy. And throughout it all, there that belief of Chinatown - that dwelling where you do as diminutive as possible, and where if you try to aid someone, you’re likely going to get double certain they’re getting wound.

“Chinatown” was Roman Polanski’s return to Hollywood, five years after his wife (Sharon Tate) had been one of the victims of the Manson gang. Polanski and Towne fought hard whether the movie should have a overjoyed ending or not. Polanski won, studio politics were advantageous at the time, and the version we all know was produced. Towne later admitted that Polanski had been right; and in fact, it is hard to imagine what kind of glad ending would have worked with the movie at all - too deep-rooted are the conflicts presented, none of which lends itself to an easy solution. Unfortunately, being released the same year as “The Godfather II” robbed “Chinatown” great of the Academy Award attention it would have deserved; of 11 nominations (best movie, best actor - Jack Nicholson -, best actress - Faye Dunaway -, best director Roman Polanski, best screenplay - Robert Towne -, best new get - Jerry Goldsmith -, best cinematography, and others), the movie only won the Oscar for Towne’s screenplay. Generations of fans, however, have long since recognized that “Chinatown” is a milestone in the history of the film noir and in the professional history of its participants, and one of Hollywood’s finest hours.

Yu Yu Hakusho: First Battles will do two things: the first, it will give all those people who enjoyed the series but never detached it an opportunity to remove it from the initiate, and second, it will nettle a lot of the fans who bought every separate DVD release or box area over the past couple years. I happen to be in the first category, and I mediate this was a incandescent release of a series that I got into because of the first-rate action and strangely interweaving anecdote.

Yu Yu Hakusho has probably the strangest beginning for an action anime ever created. It starts out somewhat dramatic, with a punk kid, Yusuke, getting hit by a car. From there, he must attempt to fetch succor his life from the gods of death. He must earn a series of tasks and the like in order to enact this. The subtitle for Yu Yu Hakusho, Ghost Files, made a lot of sense when you reflect the beginning. But after Yusuke goes about getting his life serve, he becomes a spirit detective and fights in a series of battles in order to either a) cessation a demon criminal or, b) fetch more power. It doesn’t fit, and that is the only reason why I gave this series a four rather than a five, for the incongruous open.

Still, the heaping of Yu Yu episodes in this DVD location makes up for that, as it fast gets past the early portion to the spirit detective piece. This DVD contains the first fourteen episodes, and go as listed:

FUNimation knows how to please it fans–for the most part; the insane amount of episodes for the cheap designate is definitely proof of that. With maybe a few outlandish moments of voice-acting (such as Botan’s continually shifting accent), this series was surprisingly well-done. If you haven’t already started collecting the position and you’re a fan of Yu Yu’s days on Cartoon Network, then now is the perfect time to net this region.

In Yu Yu Hakusho: First Battles, you’ll come by the first fourteen episodes of the explain in both English and Japanese with subtitles. This display is a terrific anime fat of engrossing characters and absorbing stories. Specifically, this first volume focuses on setting up the fable. You’ll view how the main character, Yusuke Urameshi, becomes a Spirit Detective and how he does in his first two cases.

The exhibit is about the main character, Yusuke Urameshi, a 14 year outmoded young man with a lack of ambition and hatred for authority figures. He is seen by most as a pains maker known for loving to fight and skipping school. A classmate and future friend of his, Kuwabara, constantly challenges him to fights and has yet to regain. Only a girl named Kaeko sees some superior in Yusuke whom she has known since they were children. Yusuke’s mother is a bit of a slush, but truly cares about him. With a personality and background such as this, Yusuke doesn’t fit the bill of your typical hero…until strangely enough, he dies.

Saving a child from a car fracture, Yusuke unexpectedly gives up his life. He meets Botan, the Grim Reaper and Koenma, prince of the Spirit Realm. In honor of his generous deed, Yusuke is allowed to attempt a test to reach attend to life. At first he thinks he and everyone else would be better off with him slow, but when he sees the harm his family and friends experience with him gone, he takes the test. Eventually, Yusuke succeeds, but the adventure is honest beginning. Having experienced death, Yusuke comes befriend to life with an unusualy high awareness of the supernatural. He can recognize things others can’t and Koenma recruites him to be Spirit Detective of Earth, but can Yusuke do his job without dieing…again?

Like a said, a dazzling moving epic! The characters are engrossing with some sweet, others hilarious, and others disturbing. 14 episodes for this sign is a substantial deal too. If you like DBZ or Inuyasha, you’ll treasure Yu Yu Hakusho. The extras are lacking, but I bought this exhibit for the episodes themselves so I don’t really mind this, but others might. To be fair, a review can’t do the expose justice, so honest derive it and survey it yourself. It shouldn’t hold long for you to gawk why it deserves 5 stars.

I had wanted to like this movie so grand. As mighty as I wanted to like Windtalkers. Both had potential to be really grand but were unable to rise above an absolutely juvenile and cheesy script. I am an avid WWII buff and I give alot of license to war movies and don’t retract them apart for their accuracy or lack there of but this one not only insults the viewer but the legacy of the 92nd/Buffalo.

The Genuine : Absolutely sparkling cinematography. If you could calm the sound (dialogue) one might consider they were watching a beautiful decent WWII era movie. Battle scenes were shot well. Uniforms were exquisite expressionless on proper and the weapons were moral although Thompson SMGs and 1911 .45 caliber HGs did not have 100 round clips……

The Abominable : Dreadful and embarrassing dialogue embellished with overacting which made it almost comic. Obligatory nudity. Soldiers using language and phrases that would be venerable only today. A German louspeaker that blares Axis Sally’s propaganda for several square miles over the battlefield and is audible to all. Fragmented memoir with a total lack of cohesion (like this review) . My well-liked is the commanding white officer (Nokes? ) stating that the Germans were going to cause a run riot by piping in the propaganda. I assume that those dauntless soldiers were more enthusiastic in staying alive and protecting their comrades than starting a speed riot in Italy under fire. But then again this shows the mentality of Spike Lee and the writer.

The Evil : All white officers and soldiers portrayed as bigoted haters. In one instance the commanding officer refuses to contain members of the 92nd crossed the river so does not send supporting artillery strikes. His reasoning for this is “He is lying”.

This same commanding officer condescendingly orders a dusky soldier to score him water. The gloomy soldier spits into the canteen before giving it to white officer. Not only does this lower the mentality of the movie several notches but also slanders the memory of those bold men of the 92nd/Buffalo that fought for their country.

This movie had potential, unfortunately it was executed by someone who was unable to sigh. It is filled with contemporary language, recent topics of discussion, dreadful acting, and endless preaching about the evils of America. Spike Lee had scolded Clint Eastwood for not having any African Americans in Iwo Jima and had wanted him to rewrite history. Well, Spike has done that with this movie.

Positives:

(1.) ???

Negatives:

(1.) Disjointed storytelling with poorly constructed flashbacks (everyone’s currently favorite cinematographic technique to showoff cleverness) .

(2.) Stereotypic characterizations with sophomoric scripting.

(3.) Cheaply constructed military & war effects e.g. military uniforms that search for as if they were cleanly pulled out of museum storage each day; cigarettes & munitions that last forever despite long term isolation from supply back.

(4.) Worst of all was that the notable sage of sad WWII infantry was turned into preachy propaganda & simplistic absolutes that do not permit the audience to be thoughtfully educated but instead to be insulted as if they were moronic simpletons.

The Goodbye Girl is a bittersweet comedy about relationships and taking chances. Though it deals with the human condition, what most quickly comes to mind are those wickedly comedic scenes featuring Richard Dreyfuss in an Oscar-winning role. He plays a struggling actor with a sharp tongu who has sublet an apartment from single mom Marcia Mason, a divorcee with horrific taste in men, who are always running out on her. She is left high and dry once more, stuck sharing her apartment with Dreyfuss when he hasn’t the heart to enforce his lease and toss out mother and daughter.

Neil Simon’s play shines under the direction of Herbert Ross as these two mismatched people find their contempt changing into mutual admiration. Quinn Cummings is more interesting than most precocious child stars; she seems brighter and her manner is prickly instead of cloying. Watch this film just for the scene in which Dreyfuss plays Richard III in an off-off-Broadway play. He lisps, he limps, he screams. It is the worst theater you will ever see–and thoroughly hilarious. –Rochelle O’Gorman

Join Barney and the gang on a never-televised journey into the fascinating world of transportation. When Robert bends a wheel cleaning his grandfather’s old bike, Barney suggests the kids visit with his friend Pop Wheelie. Pop absolutely loves wheels and anything that has to do with transportation–and he just happens to run a wheel factory colorful enough to be reminiscent of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. As Pop’s magical machine cranks out a new wheel for Robert’s bike, Pop lets Barney and the kids test new wheels for his bus, ship, train, and planes as they learn about street and bike safety along the way. Lots of fun songs like “Wheels on the Bus” and “Down by the Station” accompany the kid’s animated journeys and soon they’re back in the tree house putting the finishing touches on Robert’s newly renovated bike.
